The Pacers Add Another Weapon?
+ PGA Tour Heads To Coachella
Morning! It’s a cold Thursday in the U.S. unless you live in Miami, then you’re doing okay. Grab a coffee, and let’s get warmed up today with some NBA trade talk, some college basketball scores, and more.
Vamos!
NBA
Toronto Shakes Things Up Again
🏀 Two-time all-star Pascal Siakam is heading to Indianapolis after a three-team trade went through yesterday. Siakam is averaging 22.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 34.7 minutes per game this season. He will be a great addition to the Pacers’ high-powered offense led by Tyrese Haliburton(currently on IR) as the Pacers find themselves sitting 7th in the Eastern Conference. This is Toronto’s 2nd big trade of the year, as they made moves with the Knicks earlier this year. The NBA trade deadline is February 8.
Here are the details.
Raptors receive:
Bruce Brown (via Pacers)
Kira Lewis (via Pelicans)
Jordan Nwora (via Pacers)
Two 2024 first-round picks (via Pacers)
Conditional 2026 first-round pick (via Pacers)
Pacers receive:
Pascal Siakam (via Raptors)

Cash considerations and are now in the position to get below the luxury tax threshold
NBA Scores (Let’s Do a Little Rapid Fire)
👎️ The Detroit Pistons lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-117, but the Pistons put up a good fight. I’m telling you, this Piston’s team is young, and they’re talented, and I think they’ll turn it around next year. This year, unfortunately, they’re one team you can’t lose to. Karl Anthony-Towns scored 27 for the T-Wolves
🔊 The Atlanta Hawks grabbed a 106-104 win over the Magic with a buzzer-beater shot from Dejounte Murray, who scored 26 points last night. Paolo Banchero thought he was a bad man by tying up the game with a three before Murray ended things.

🍀 The Boston Celtics are a perfect 20-0 at home this season. They almost wiped the entire Garden with the San Antonio Spurs last night, but the Spurs played a reasonably good 2nd half after heading into the locker room down 25. The Spurs would outscore Boston in the 3rd quarter but it was too little too late. The Celts got 24 from Jayson Tatum, 22 from Jrue Holiday, and 21 from Jaylen Brown.
👉️ The Cleveland Cavaliers beat up the Milwaukee Bucks 135-95 last night. The Bucks were without Giannis, but the Cavs had a dominant night from Donovan Mitchell, who scored 31 and got 33 from Georges Niang, who came off the bench.
🏀 The Knicks routed the Rockets 109-94 at MSG on Wednesday night. Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson scored 31 and 30, respectively, and the Knicks had three other double-digit scorers.
👀 Just hours after they had a trade occur, the Toronto Raptors dominated the Miami Heat 121-97. Gary Trent Jr. scored 28 for the Raptors, and they got 26 from RJ Barrett.
👉️ The Dallas Mavericks fell to the LA Lakers 127-110. Luka Doncic had a triple-double for the Mavs with 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists, but he didn’t get much help from the rest of the squad. Anthony Davis came up one assist short of a triple-double after having 28 points and 12 rebounds. The Lakers also got 25 points from LeBron and 29 from D’Angelo Russell.
College Basketball
It was a beautiful Wednesday in conference play for college basketball. Multiple ranked teams defeated their opponents by double digits, and we only had one upset in the top 25. Here are a few pointers from games that took place on a school night.
👉️ The UConn Huskies weren’t going to lose their first game as the #1 ranked team in the nation. The Huskies played team ball last night and got scores from 7 different players, including Donovan Clingan, who returned to action. The Huskies took down the #18 Creighton Bluejays 62-48.
👀The #4 ranked UNC Tar Heels put 46 points in the first in an ACC matchup against Louisville. The Tar Heels would go into the half with a 17-point lead and would win 86-70. RJ Davis led the Heels with 21.
👍️ #5 Houston had a better start to this week than last. The Cougars pounced on Texas Tech 77-54 and got 29 points from Jamal Shead
👉️ Our big upset came in the SEC where unranked LSU took down the #22 ranked Ole MIss 89-80. It was a high-scoring game where Jordan Wright got the best of the Rebels as he dropped 27 on their heads.
⛳️ Amex Open ⛳️
The PGA Tour tees up its 3rd event in January and starts up the five-event “West Coast Swing” with The American Express Open in La Quinta, California. If you didn’t know, La Quinta is located in the Coachella Valley, so yeah, the PGA Tour has that going for them! I don’t see LIV hosting events at Coachella.
Notable players teeing it up this week are Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Cantlay, Daniel Berger, Tony Finau, Jason Day, Will Zalatoris, and Sam Burns.
The tournament is played over three courses: the Pete Dye Stadium Course and the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club.
You can catch all the action over the next few days on ESPN+ and on The Golf Channel from 4-7 pm ET. Tee times start at 11:30 am ET today.
What Did We Miss Today?
There were only two NHL games last night, and we’ve got a lineup of games tonight, so we’ll bring the hockey news to you tomorrow.
Coaching Hot Seats
We’ll talk more about coaching hot seats tomorrow, but we will mention that The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back Mike McCarthy for one more year. Apparently, next year is a do-or-die/ Super Bowl or bust year. I'm not sure what the last four were, though.
