Pelicans, Hawks, and Storks
Jimbo here - second time guest writer and all around sports guy. Rather than diving deep on my favorite sport, disc golf, I’m going to be putting on someone else’s tiny hat to cover mainstream topics. Let’s get into it.
The Highlights
🏀 The Pelicans hosted the Bucks last night at the Smoothie King Center. Giannis vs Zion. Even I know this is a top-tier matchup because I’ve heard of these guys. Giannis scored more points but Zion put the team on his back down the stretch - Pelicans win 107-100
🏀 The Hawks hosted the Celtics for the second straight game and this one was just as close as the first. Tatum was mad after the prior loss and definitely came to play. But Dejounte Murray did as well. He finished with 44 points and hit a clutch jumper to give the Hawks a 1-pt lead with less than a second left. I’ve heard that shooters want to shoot - but Murray said he didn’t want to take that many shots. Kobe definitely would be proud.
⚾️ The Astros hosted the Yankees yesterday and both teams were looking to start right and show off their shiny new toys. Juan Soto made his debut and this is what I know about him so far. He can throw that ball to home plate in clutch moments. Yanks win 5-4.
⚾️ The Dodgers already had two games under their belt before hosting the Cardinals last night. Ohtani is still looking for his first homer but helped out plenty in the 7-1 win. Mookie Betts looked great and has a great name to boot.
Odds & Ends
Most people know you shouldn’t argue with a ref. Or an ump I guess. Jonah Heim who catches for the Texas Rangers found this out the hard way after arguing that the batter made contact with the ball while said ball then trickled out behind the plate. While this is going on one of the Cubs made it all the way from second to home to give the Cubs a one run lead. The replay clearly shows that the ball was tipped - but the play wasn’t eligible for review. Heim got his vindication though, hitting a walk off home run. Maybe giving the ump a little lip is ok after all.
If you made it this far you deserve an update on the DGPT (Disc Golf Pro Tour). The Texas State Disc Golf Championship kicked off today and is the final stop during the Texas swing. Ohn ‘Dawg’ Scoggins shot the hot round on the FPO side with a scorching hot -11 and carded 3 straight birdies on the difficult finishing stretch. Calving Heimburg is one stroke back of the lead in his effort to defend his title.
🏀 The Kobe Storks have won 6 straight way out in the Japan B league and are sniffing a .500 record. I’m all in on Storks today!
