Poised For An Upset Saturday?
Welcome to the first day of fall and the official season for great football weather. If your significant other thought you’d be spending the day apple picking to celebrate the start of Autumn, you’d better be done by Noon!
We’ve got some massive games today that could make or break programs, so let’s line up and get this ball snapped.
Friday Night Scoreboard
We didn’t have a marquee matchup on Friday but any football is better than no football. Let’s check in on some quick scores.
Wisconsin 38, Purdue 17
Wisconsin dominated from the beginning and Purdue had some opportunities to get back into the game but turnovers and silly decisions cost them
NC State 24, Virginia 21
Virginia almost made an unbelievable comeback in this game after being down 8 with little time left. They scored a TD and after the play an O-lineman headbutted the other team and they had to go for the long 2pt conversion to tie it up. They hit on the conversion but then the QB’s helmet came off during the play and instead of putting it back on he did a “tough guy” look to his sideline and unsportsmanlike conduct foul. 15 yards were taken off the kickoff and that set NC State up with great field position and they came down the field and kicked a field goal. WILD ENDING.
Boise State 34, San Diego State 31
This game was WAY closer than I expected but SDSU held their own. The star of the show was Ashton Jeanty for Boise as he had 23 carries for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns
Air Force 45, San Jose State 20
The Air Force Academy’s offense was off to a slow start but picked up the pace as THEY RAN FOR 400 YARDS ON 73 CARRIES AND 6 TOUCHDOWNS. Air Force soars to new heights as they are 4-0 on the season.
Did you all really care about these games? Maybe not. But I needed to get that off my chest.
MOVING ON TO TODAY’S GAMES.
Big Game Saturday
Buckle your seatbelts folks, we’re in for a great ride today. 12 pm, 3:30pm, 7 pm, 7:30 pm… choose whatever time you’d like because there’s a game for everyone.
Let’s go in reverse order and start with the biggest game.
#6 Ohio State at #9 Notre Dame, 7:30 pm on NBC
College Gameday is live from South Bend so you know the hype is real at Notre Dame. Note Dame has been looking good in their first four games but their offense hasn’t really faced a tough defense. ND statistically has one of the best pass defenses in the nation but they’ve played Navy who attempted 6 passes and some other bottom-of-the-barrel teams. Ohio State hasn’t looked great in their first two starts of the year but after naming Kyle McCord as their #1 QB the offense let loose last week against Western Kentucky. The Buckeyes are -3 favorites in this matchup and if Notre Dame gets behind they’ll need to rely heavily on QB Sam Hartman to get the job done. As a Michigan fan, I dislike both teams heavily, but I just can’t see OSU leaving South Bend without a win. I’d take OSU giving the points and I might take the under at 55.5.
#14 Oregon State at #21 Washington State, 7 pm on FOX
The Pac-12 is on fire this season and they have 8 teams in the Top 25. Is this where they start to eat each other alive? Oregon State is 3 point favorites on the road and they are led by DJ Uiagalelei who is off to a much better start than he was at Clemson. Washington State’s offense has been clicking lately and they have a big win over Wisconsin in week 2. I’m taking WSU +3 and am taking the over at 57.5.
The 3:30 pm slate is looking so good and you’re going to need multiple TVs
#15 Ole Miss at #13 Alabama, 3:30 pm on CBS
This is the first time since 2015 that Alabama is out of the top 10. Jalen Milroe is back as QB1 for Bama and this will likely be a game where Alabama will need Milroe to make plays as Ole Miss has a potent offense led by Jaxson Dart. Ole Miss isn’t getting the respect they deserve at 7-point underdogs. We’re taking them at +7 and staying away from the O/U at 56.
#22 UCLA at #11 Utah, 3:30 pm on FOX
Utah’s star QB Cam Rising might be making a start against UCLA today. Utah opened as 4.5-point favorites but the line has moved to 6. Here’s the deal, Utah has impressive wins against Florida and Baylor. UCLA has wins against NC Central, Coastal Carolina, and San Diego State. Here’s another thing.. Utah doesn’t lose at home. They’re 16-0 in their last 16 at home and they have won 15 of those games by 6 or more. I think even at the -6, I’m still taking Utah.
#19 Colorado at #10 Oregon, 3:30 pm on ABC
You know what, I’d rather spend time on this tomorrow if Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffalo pull this upset off. The Ducks are giving 21 points and the O/U is 70. Without Travis Hunter, I can’t see Colorado stopping the Oregon passing game. I can, however, see Colorado making some plays on offense, but just not enough of them. I think Oregon covers, but this stays under 70.
#4 Florida State at Clemson, Noon on ABC
Florida State had a close call against Boston College last weekend and narrowly escaped. I think they were looking ahead to Clemson. Clemson has recovered nicely after losing to Duke in week 1 but I think Florida State is still a much better team. FSU is the favorite by 2.5 points and the O/U is 55.5. I’m taking FSU and the under.

We’re in for one helluva Saturday folks. Enjoy responsibly!
