Put the brooms away

Is anyone else seeing this “what a pro wants, what a pro needs” commercial as much as I do? If I see SGA and Chet Holmgren on the TV screen one more time I might need to get BetterHelp as a sponsor so I can get free therapy.

Anyways,

Let’s take a look at what went down since Friday, and then we’ll take a closer look at today’s action.

We’re not hitting you guys with too much analysis today, but we think you’ll get all you need to know.

NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is complete, and we covered the top picks from the first round the other day.

There’s too much to cover and we all have our own arbitrary reasons as to why certain draft grades for teams are good or bad. We’ll leave our subjectivity out of it and point you to Pro Football Focus’ analysis.

These guys do a lot of advanced scouting and reporting for College and the NFL, so check out your team and see what grade they gave your front office.

NBA Scores

Check out the scoreboard from Friday and Saturday night.

Here are a few surprises

from the last two nights.

🏀 The Pacers beat the Bucks in game 3 of their series and Damian Lillard suffered an Achilles injury. Now Dame and Giannis are out for game 4, and the Bucks are likely going to get bounced in the first round in back-to-back years as they are down 2-1 in the series right now.

🏀 Kyrie Irving had an awesome 2nd half on Friday night against the LA Clippers and the Mavericks have a 2-1 lead in their series after having a terrible game 1.

🏀 The Magic outscored the Cavaliers 61-29 in the 2nd half yesterday. We knew the Magic are really good at home but they’ve beaten Cleveland by 60 points over the last two games. I can’t finish this section without mentioning how bad the Cavs were in the 3rd quarter last night. THEY ONLY SCORED 10 POINTS. That’s an NBA playoff team… only scoring 10 points in 12 minutes of play.

🏀 The Lakers avoided getting swept in the first round by the Nuggets after they won at home last night. The stars on the court had some big stats. Nikola Jokic finished with 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists for the Nuggets. For the Lakers, LeBron led the team with 30 points, and Anthony Davis had 25 points and 23 rebounds.

It’s pretty wild that LeBron is still making plays like this at the age of 39. He had a few more like this too last night.

We’ve got ball all day today!

NHL Playoffs

Like the NBA, we’ll look at all the scores from the last two nights of NHL play.

Here’s what we learned from the last two nights.

🏒The Rangers are up 3-0 in their series against the Washington Capitals. There are two things going on in this one. Igor Shesterkin is playing out of his mind for the Rangers, AND the Caps are awful at finishing around the net this year. The Caps have a roster filled with talent, and for some reason, they just can’t get the puck in the back of the net. There’s no reason the Rangers shouldn’t close this out today, but they’ve got some work to do if they want to play just as well in the next round of playoffs.

🏒 The Colorado Avalanche are really, really good at home. In fact, they’ve won over 75% of their home matchups during the regular season and they had a wonderful showing over the Winnipeg Jets in Denver for game 3. They got a 6-2 win over Winnipeg. Game 4 remains in Denver, and the Avalanche could potentially have a 3-1 lead when things head back to Winnipeg for game 5. Both teams finished near the top of the NHL in wins + ties, so this series should hopefully produce a lot more action that possibly stretches to a game 7.

🏒The Bruins went to Toronto hoping to steal 1 game back from the Leafs after the Leafs did that to Boston in game 2. The B’s got something better. 2 road wins! Leave it to Boston’s captain Brad Marchand to record another goal and an assist in the 3-1 win. Boston has a 3-1 lead in the series

🏒 The Tampa Bay Lightning were not going to get shut out by their in-state opponent, the Florida Panthers. The Lightning were down 3-0 in the series with their backs against the boards and they came out with a big 6-3 win. Steven Stamkos and Brandon Hagel both scored two goals for the Lightning.

🏒 Another squad that lives to see another day is the NY Islanders. After some crazy finishes that resulted in losses, the Islanders needed 2 overtimes against the Carolina Hurricanes to get their first win of the series, which Carolina still has a commanding 3-1 lead in. It’s a good thing the Isles didn’t skate on Friday because they needed the extra juice in the legs yesterday. Here’s the game-winning goal.

Today’s Schedule

We wanted to keep things quick and easy today. There are too many playoff games on to be worried about anything else. Just remember….
