Rapid Fire Friday
+ A Billion Dollars
Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes and 55 seconds
Happy Friday! This is the Daily Breakroom and we’re here to send you into the weekend giving you less but more.
We’re going rapid fire through some topics so stick with us and it will be 4pm before you know it.
Vamos!
We’ve got the final 2 games of the NBA play-in tournament. Here’s what you need to know before we go into full playoff mode starting tomorrow.
Chicago Bulls @ Miami Heat 7:00pm on TNT
The 10 seeded Chicago Bulls will travel to Miami and take on the 7 seeded Heat in an effort to grab the 8 seed for the playoffs. Yes, we know that sentence hardly make sense. Heat are 5.5 point favorites in this matchup and the O/U is 208.5.
What’s going to happen tonight? It’s tough to say. The Bulls got hot late the other night in Toronto and Miami played like garbage against the Hawks. You’ve got to expect things to move back to normal for each team. We’re taking the Bulls +5.5.
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Minnesota Timberwolves 9:30pm on ESPN
10 seeded OKC will take on 8 seeded Minnesota for the 8 seed. This is a little closer of a matchup as we know we’re getting the stars to show up with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for OKC and Anthony Edwards for Minnesota. This is a tough one to choose. OKC is getting 5.5 points as well and O/U is 228.5. We think OKC keeps it close so we’ll be taking them with the points. We might dabble with the under as well.
Who’s the Captain Now
Jonathan Toews played his final game as the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. It was announced on Thursday that the team would not be resigning Toews. The captain turns 35 at the end of the month and has been dealing with health issues the last few years. He’s been with the Blackhawks for 15 seasons and helped Chicago win 3 Stanley Cups during that time. He just played his last game of his 8 year $84 million contract.
He received lots of love from the fans all night in a 5-4 loss against the Philadelphia Flyers in which Toews scored a goal.
Muy Rapido? Got it.
Rays Continue Smooth Start
The Tampa Bay Rays have tied the MLB record for best start to a season with a 9-3 win over the Red Sox and are now 13-0. The Rays are in Toronto tonight and we’ll see if they can break the record.
PGA Tour
Viktor Hovland shot a 64 in the opening round of the RBC Heritage and is 7 under. 13 other golfers are within 3 strokes of him.
Big News For Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have cleared Andrew Wiggins to play in game 1 of the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Sacramento Kings. Wiggins took some time off for a family matter and was trying to get his conditioning back so he sat for a few games. Wiggins is a key defender, rebounder, and can make plays when needed on the offense.
Anybody Got An NFL Team We Can Borrow/Have?
A group led by Josh Harris (primary owner of NJ Devils and Philadelphia 76ers) has agreed to purchase the Washington Commanders for $6.05 billion. The groups also includes Magic Johnson and Mitchell Rales. Who dat?
Mitchell Rales founded the Danaher Corporation and is worth a few billion himself.
Check this…. Dan Snyder, the current owner of the Washington Commanders bought the team for $750 million in 1999. That’s an 800% return on investment! College tuition can’t even touch that type of growth.
The NHL regular season ends tonight. We’ll be back tomorrow to talk NBA playoffs and possibly discuss the Stanley Cup Playoffs (but we might save that for Sunday)
Have a great Friday and enjoy happy hour!
Cheers
