Monday Merry Go Round
Hmmm, that doesn’t sound right.
Ah, the coaching carousel is what we were looking for.
We had two big coaches get fired over the weekend in different leagues.
In the NHL, Gerard Gallant was fired as the New York Rangers head coach after a disappointing first-round series loss to the NJ Devils. Gallant was in his 2nd year and although he led the Rangers to a shot at the conference championship in 2022, there were higher expectations this year after Chris Drury moved a ton of pieces around to improve the roster for a go at the Stanley Cup.
In the NBA, the Milwaukee Bucks fired Mike Budenholzer after the top-seeded Bucks suffered a devastating series loss against the Miami Heat. Aside from 2021, when the Bucks won the NBA title, they just haven’t been able to replicate their regular season success in the postseason. Milwaukee has a talented roster and they’ll look to bring someone in who can prepare the team for deeper runs in the playoffs.
FYI, 3 of the last 4 championship-winning coaches in the NBA have been fired in the last year. That list includes Budenholzer, Frank Vogel, and Nick Nurse. Steve Kerr is the exception.
That’s all for today. Have a great week!
