Cincinnati Reds Extend Winning Streak
The Cincinnati Reds have won 10 straight games, making this their best win streak since 2012. Last night, the Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-6 with the help of TJ Friedl who hit a three-run homer and had four hits. Rookie Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson also had solo homers.
The Rockies has multiple opportunities to get back in the game but had a few errors on pick-off attempts and they also couldn’t get the needed runs batted in when they had the bases loaded in the 9th.
Cincinnati runs it back against Colorado today, let’s see if they can keep the streak alive.
Other MLB Housekeeping
We’re almost halfway through the MLB season. Want to dig into some more MLB content? Check out this article by David Schoenfield at ESPN discussing each playoff contender’s biggest strength.
College World Series Update
TCU ended Oral Roberts's playoff run with a 6-1 win in Omaha yesterday. TCU’s pitching was overpowering as ORU was only able to bring 1 run in off of 7 hits. TCU had the help of a 4-run fifth inning that helped secure the win after leading only 2-0 up to that point.
LSU shut out Tennessee in the late evening game. This is LSU’s 11th shutout of the season and that leads the nation this year. LSU dominated their SEC rival this season, beating the Volunteers in 4 out of 5 meetings. The big story for LSU was their pitching from Nate Ackenhausen who pitched six innings in his first start. He normally comes in as relief and hasn’t pitched more than 3 2/3 innings for the Tigers. LSU will face
Wake Forest next.
UEFA Qualifiers
Cristiano Ronaldo played his 200th international match for Portugal and scored the lone goal of the game to help his country win their match against Iceland in a qualifying match for the 2024 Euro. Ronaldo is the leading scorer in men’s international football history and he just added his 123rd goal.
Potential Trouble For The Dolphins
Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill is under investigation after he was involved in an incident at a marina in Miami over the weekend. The potential charges are for assault and battery as he allegedly hit an employee at the marina over a disagreement. If Hill has to miss any games that will be a big blow to Miami as he was a major part of the offense last year after catching 119 passes for 1,710 yards and 7 touchdowns.
More NBA Free Agency
The Washington Wizards are definitely going to be in a rebuilding phase and it’s probably going to take time and lots of money. Kyle Kuzma has declined his player option for next season in which he was set to make $13 million. In a similar vein as Draymond Green, Kuzma could likely return to his “former” team, just on a long-term deal. Kuzma is coming off a career year where he averaged just over 21 points per game.
