Roadtrip on the East Coast!
Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes and 22 seconds
Morning!
It’s been a huge weekend for the Northeast, and it might be an even bigger week for the East Coast.
No, it’s not because it’s smog season on the West Coast, and we’ve got beautiful summer days on the East Coast.
It’s all because of sports.
Let’s see what happened over the weekend and what’s going on this week.
The Celtics Take a 2-0 Lead
We’ll start up in Boston where the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in game 2 of the NBA Finals. The final score was 105-98, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
The Mavs had every chance to steal this game until they let it slip away in the 4th quarter. Yeah, Luka Doncic may have had a 32-point triple-double, but he also had 8 silly turnovers and missed some free throws. The whole Mavs team missed free throws and was careless with the ball. Luka needs to play better, and so does the rest of the squad. You can’t win the finals with Luka scoring 32 and only PJ Washington and Kyrie scoring 17 and 16.
Conversely(not like the old school shoes), the Celtics are fortunate to get out of this one unscathed. They only shot 25% from 3 and 45% from the field. Getting these wins is how you win a championship. Do you know what else helps? Being 19 of 20 from the free throw line. Jaylen Brown scored 21, and Jrue Holiday led the team with 26. Jayson Tatum had another bad game. Tatum was 6 of 22, and it’s hard to believe that if the Celtics win the title, Tatum might not be the MVP.
Game 3 is in Dallas on Wednesday. Will the Mavs be able to win at home?
Taking the Drive to Montreal
Max Verstappen found his way back onto the podium with a 1st place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. It’s his third consecutive Canadian GP win, and he held off Lando Norris by just 3.89 seconds.
Belmont @ Saratoga
You can head 3 hours south of Montreal or 3 hours West of Boston, and you’ll end up at this year’s race course for the Belmont Stakes. With Belmont Race Course in Long Island undergoing renovations, NYRA moved 4 days of racing to upstate NY to the Saratoga Race Course.
Over 120,000 people attended the four days of racing, and 49,000 attended the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
The 12th race was a huge one, with Seize the Grey, Sierra Leone, and Mystik Dan coming in as some of the big names running. As the bets started to roll in Mindframe and Antiquarian started to get more money on them but there was one horse no one was touching….. Dornoch…. The race went off with Dornoch being a 17-1 horse.
With a ¼ mile shorter race, Dornoch was able to complete the upset, and jockey Luis Saez would win his 2nd ever Belmont Stakes.
Incredible! 😱

Down To Connecticut
Now, let’s hop back in the car and head to Storrs, Connecticut. This is the home of the UConn Huskies and back-to-back NCAA basketball Championships.
UConn head coach Dan Hurley is looking to 3-peat in the NCAA but the LA Lakers are looking to sign him as their next head coach. Hurley met with the Lakers over the weekend when he sat down with GM Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss. Apparently, the Lakers made a compelling case for Hurley to lead the Lakers and he plans to make his decision later today.
There are also reports that UConn has now made an offer to keep Hurley and make him the third highest-paid coach behind John Calipari and Bill Self.
Let’s Get Stuck on I-95
Let’s not take I-95, as it’s literally one of the worst highways in the Northeast. Unfortunately, if you want to get to the U.S. Open this week, you’ll likely spend a little time on this interstate to get to Pinehurst in North Carolina.
Pinehurst No. 2 is the location for the 2024 US Open, and we’ll do more on this on Wednesday. Just know that Tiger Woods has already been practicing, and we’re going to have a super competitive group this week. Scottie Scheffler just won the Memorial Tournament, and Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tony Finau, and Xander Schauffele played some great golf in Ohio, too.
We’ve got LIV Golfer joining in on the action this week, so it’s going to be four days of awesome action.
p.s. this is an awesome tweet
scottie scheffler has either won a golf tournament, produced a child, or been arrested for felonious assault of a police officer in 7 of the last 12 total weeks

Florida Panthers Take Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals
Hop back on the I-95 and head south; you’ll end up in Sunrise, Florida. Home of the Panthers. They played the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday Night in game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, and Edmonton had no answers.
The Panthers won 3-0. The Oilers outshot the Panthers 32-18, but Sergie Brovosky made some big saves all night for Florida. The Panthers opened the game with a quick score from Carter Verhaeghe and then got another goal in the 2nd from Evan Rodrigues, and Eetu Luostrainen scored the empty netter with 5 seconds left on the clock.
Game two is tonight at 8 pm ET on ABC.
That is a full trip down the East Coast today. We’ll be back on Wednesday and ready to take some more playoffs and golf.
Have a great start to the week, and don’t forget about your friends. Share this trip with them by using the referral link below! We’ll even send you gas money for sharing!
