Saturday Scandal In Paris!

Okay, we hate taking too much time on your weekend but we’ve got golf, the world cup, college football playoff predictions, and scandals in Paris… we need more than a minute.

Good Morning by the way!

If this was an old-school newspaper the only thing missing would be the comics.

Paris Saint Scandal

As Messi made his debut for Inter Miami (more on that next) after leaving Paris St. Germain, the Paris football club is trying to figure out with another one of the world’s top players, Kylian Mbappe. The club left Mbappe off of their preseason tour after Mbappe announced he wasn’t going to return to the club after this season but he still wanted to play with the team this year.

So what’s PSG’s plan? They don’t want to just let him go at the end of next season and not get anything in return. The story out there is that PSG just won’t play Mbappe at all this year. They either want him to just walk or sign a new contract with the team before he sees the field. That’s quite the odd stance to take. You wouldn’t just sit LeBron for a full year because he wasn’t going to sign with you the year after.

Who knows. I certainly don’t.

That’s How You Debut

Lionel Messi made his Inter Miami Debut tonight as the MLS team had a crossover game with the Mexico Futbol League team Cruz Azul. Messi subbed into the game in the 54th minute and of course, he made an impact. He scored the game-winner off a free kick and Twitter is losing its mind. Excuse the highlight, but if ESPN is using an iPhone clip, so can we.

That’s Another Way To Debut

Bryce Harper is being moved to first base from the outfield by the Philadelphia Phillies. Are you confused or upset? Well so was Harper but he apparently showed up ready to go last night and made a tremendous play early in the game. Before we all lose our minds, yes it was an awesome catch, but this does not make him the best first baseman of all time. This was practically a really good outfielder play, in the infield. But please, Bryce Harper, carry on being a really good professional baseball player and I’ll continue to write from my couch.

Saquon Can Sit For All The Giants Care

The Giants have signed RB James Robinson and he’ll compete for a roster spot amongst Matt Breida, Gary Brightwell, fifth-round pick Eric Gray and I guess Saquon Barkley?

Robinson was signed after he was released from the Patriots’ mandatory minicamp on day 1.

Could this really be an attempt to vill a Saquon void? I don’t know.

Here’s what I do know. Saquon wants a long-term deal for what… like $30 million or a few more? He was reportedly offered $22 mil for 2 years but wouldn’t accept. If he doesn’t play this year he’s going to lose out on $10 mil, so why not just ball out, don’t get injured, take your money, and go sign a deal with another team next year? The Giants clearly don’t want you long-term, so why stick around?

College Football Predictions

From A College Football Quarterback

Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner, told ESPN he predicts that USC will be in The College Football Playoff this year after missing it his first two years as a player.

Here is what Caleb Williams said: "I haven't been in the College Football Playoff in my two years of playing. ... It's been tough. It bothers me because I play for championships. I don't play for anything else. So not being able to have the chance and being so close frustrates me. This year it's going to be a good one."

All I’ve got to say is 6 weeks is too long of a wait for college football.

Bryce Young’s Got Himself A Deal

The first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has signed his deal with Carolina Panthers. Bryce Young’s rookie deal is looking pretty good even though it’s not the super deals we saw 15 years ago.

The deal includes a fully guaranteed four-year contract that is worth $37.9 million and has a $24.6 million signing bonuses wrapped in.

The Open Championship

The second day of the Open Championship proved to be a pretty tough day and Saturday isn’t looking much better as rain and winds are in the forecast for most of the day.

Brian Harman isn’t bothered by the weather apparently. He’s been playing decent golf this year but kind of came out of nowhere at The Open. He is 10 under and 5 strokes ahead of 2nd place after carding a -4 in the first round and -6 in the second round. The last two times The Open was at the Royal Liverpool Rory and Tiger won and they started off with strong leads.

Harman is the favorite to win right now and we’ll chat more about who missed the cut tomorrow when we have some more time. If you want to watch Saturday’s action tune into USA from 5-7 am ET and then NBC from 7 am - 3 pm ET.

USWNT Wins Opener vs Vietnam

The US Women’s Team took down Vietnam in their opening World Cup match with a 3-0 win. This could have been a 7-0 game or an 11-0 game but the US missed many opportunities to score. Sophia Smith would score two goals and Lindsey Horan would put a third goal in the net for the American squad.

The US will face the Netherlands on Wednesday.

That’s all for today. Let’s have a Saturday!
