The Shohei Show

.....Again

Good Morning and Happy Friday! We’ve made it to the weekend and I can’t believe it’s the last weekend in July.

Here’s what we got today:

⚾️ No Quit In Ohtani

⚾️ More Trades

🏈 Injuries Spreading Around The NFL

🏀 The Ben Simmons Saga

Let’s swing away at this one

The Shohei Ohtani Show

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again…

IT’S SHOHEI OHTANI’S WORLD AND WE’RE JUST LIVING IN IT!

Now let’s say it in the way you would say it if you were hanging with your buddies watching Ohtani do his thing and it’s leaving you awestruck. I think it would go a little something like….

BRUH… WHAT?

Let’s summarize what Ohtani did yesterday. He played in a doubleheader for the Angels. He pitched in the first game of the doubleheader and he tossed a complete game shutout. He allowed just one hit and struck out eight batters and earned his 9th win of the season.

That’s pretty dope and it would normally be amazing on its own.

But…..

In the second game, Ohtani hit a 2 run homer in the second inning and then hit another home run in the 4th inning!

This dude has 9 freaking wins from the mound and has a league-leading 38 home runs on the season.

No wonder why the Angels said “Nahhhh, we’re not trading him”*.

*Disclaimer: That was not an actual quote from the Angels

More MLB Trades Before The Deadline

We’ve got some more trade updates so let’s cut to the chase and drop ‘em bullet point style.

  • The New York Mets are sending closer David Robertson to the Miami Marlins in return for infield prospect Marco Vargas and catching prospect Ronald Hernandez

  • The Milwaukee Brewers acquire 1B Carlos Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates and send SS Jhonny Severino

  • The San Diego Padres are willing to take trade offers for OF Juan Soto, pitcher Blake Snell, and closer Josh Hader

Injuries In The NFL

There’s nothing you hate to see more than injuries early in camp. Guys spend too much time getting ready for the season and teams put so much work into fine-tuning a roster and an injury before the regular season can throw off 6 months of work in seconds.

Here’s what’s happened in the first few days of camp.

Joe Burrow

During practice, Joe Burrow was moving out of the pocket on a passing play and grabbed his calf after clearly sustaining a non-contact injury. It sounds like he may only have a calf strain which is better than the alternatives. He’ll likely miss the rest of the preseason.

Jalen Ramsey

The Miami Dolphins made a great addition to their defense when they added CB Jalen Ramsey to the team in an offseason trade. Now the team and fans will have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to see Ramsey in action as he suffered a torn meniscus on Thursday and requires surgery.

Matthew Stafford

We need to put some good feels out in the world today, so we’re happy to report Matthew Stafford is throwing without limitations at camp.

The Ben Simmons Saga

It’s being reported that the Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons is 100% healthy and is now focused solely on skill work and conditioning. Simmons has played in only 42 games with the Nets since he came to the team in February 2022.

At this point, I don’t think anyone cares if Simmons is on or off the court, we’d probably just like to hear about him less.

Yes, I can taste the irony.
