Skip the Cheesesteak and Head Straight for Arizona
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 4 Minutes and 22 Seconds
Good Morning. It’s a wild Wednesday in the middle of October thanks to:
The Philadelphia Phillies dominating the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Houston Astros are fighting for their season
Having some high-scoring games in college football on a Tuesday
Needing to discuss injuries in the NFL
Let’s dig in.
NLCS Game 2
Arizona Diamondbacks (0-2) 0 | Philadelphia Phillies (2-0) 10
2️⃣ The Phillies are two games away from returning to the World Series and it’s all thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s bat and the Phillies’ pitching
💪 Trea Turner hit a solo shot in the 1st inning. That was followed up by a solo shot from Schwarber in the 3rd inning. That was followed up by another solo shot by Scwarber in the 6th inning, followed by 3 more runs being scored.
⚾️ Aaron Nola got the win from the mound after striking out 7 batters through six innings and only allowing 3 hits. The Phillies would only allow one more hit the rest of the game and finish with 13 total strikeouts.
📺️ Game 3 is set for Thursday night at 5:07 pm ET on TBS
ALCS Game 3
The Houston Astros are heading up I-45 to Arlington to face the Texas Rangers on the Rangers home turf. The Astros are down 2-0 in the ALCS.
📺️ Gametime is set for 8:03 pm ET on FS1
⚾️ Christian Javirer is pitching for Houston and Max Scherzer is pitching for the Rangers
💰️ The Rangers are 1.5 run favorites and the moneyline for the Astros is +110. The latest odds have the O/U at 9.5 I think taking the Astros in any bet might be a decent idea as they’re going to fight not to go down 3-0. However, the Rangers have some power in the batter’s box and that makes me think the best bet to take is the over.
College Football
Who doesn’t love some college football on a Tuesday night? We had some battles in Conference USA and the Sun Belt Conference with some high-scoring games.
Middle Tennessee (2-6) 35 | Liberty (7-0) 42
✈️ Middle Tennessee’s QB Nicholas Vattiato tried to get a W for his team by completing 24 of his 37 passes for 332 yards, and 4 TDs but he threw 2 INTs. The offense did its part but the defense came up short
🏃💨 Liberty QB Kaidon Salter threw 2 TDs after completing just 12 of his 20 passes but he didn’t need to do much more. The Flames ran the ball 61 times for 401 yards and 4 TDs!
Western Kentucky (4-3) 17 | Jacksonville State (6-2) 20
⏱️ Western Kentucky held a 17-10 lead from halftime until the 4:40 mark in the 4th quarter when Jacksonville State would score a TD and then kick the game-winning field goal with 00:00 on the scoreboard
👀Jacksonville State would throw for 222 yards and rush for 262. Yup, they would just breeze through 484 yards of total offense on a nice Tuesday night
Southern Miss (1-6) 3 | South Alabama (4-3) 55
👀Florida St. whooped up on Southern Miss 66-13 earlier in the season. South Alabama wasn’t far behind.. maybe the South Alabama Jaguars are being overlooked?
📈This was a lopsided matchup all night. Southern Miss had 149 yards of total offense and South Alabama had 647 total yards. Yup, South Alabama threw for 360 yards and then ran the ball for 287 yards and 7 TDs.
NFL Injury Updates
Let’s get you all ready for waivers this week
QBs
Trevor Lawrence is recovering from a knee injury and has progressed really well. He’s expected to give it a go tomorrow night on Thursday Night Football
Deshaun Watson is still questionable for this week
Colts QB Anthony Richardson will likely be done for the season
Giants’ QB Daniel Jones is trying to get ready for this Sunday against the Commanders
Justin Fields is doubtful for the Bears this week as he dislocated his thumb on his throwing hand
WRs
If you haven’t heard, Julio Jones has signed a 1-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles after Philly had to place Quez Watkins on the IR
Debo Samuel is day-to-day for the 49ers and avoided a serious shoulder injury
Steelers’ WR Diontae Johnson will be coming off of the IR
RBs
Christian McCaffrey also avoided a serious oblique injury and is expected to return on Monday Night, but he might be worth keeping out this week if he does not get many touches
David Montgomery left the field on Sunday for the Lions. It seems like he might be questionable and with backup Jahmyr Gibbs injured, the workload will be on Craig Reynolds
Kyren Williams played awesome Sunday for the LA Rams but then it was reported that he had an ankle injury. We’ll expect him to go this weekend, but just keep an eye out for any additional news.
