This Subway Is Broken Down
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes and 31 Seconds
Good Morning, Good Morning! This is the Daily Breakroom and we don’t want too much of your time today. Tell Jim at the water cooler that you don’t have time to talk and are too busy today.
Here’s what we got today:
Subway Series
Ohtani Destinations
NFL Updates
Women’s World Cup Update
Let’s do this.
Subway Series
We’re back with the 2nd stretch of the Subway Series, and this train is ready to retire at the railyard.
The Yankees and Mets will face off tonight and tomorrow at Yankee Stadium in a 2 game series. Both teams faced each other in June at Citi Field for two games and split the series 1-1.
This game is about more than New York City bragging rights, it’s about climbing out of a hole. The Yankees are 2.5 games out of the AL Wild Card and the Mets are 7 games behind the NL Wild Card, so both teams need wins and they need them now.
Justin Verlander is starting for the Mets and Domingo German is starting for the Yankees. Game time is set for 7:05 pm ET and will be on TBS.
The Yanks are +105 to win and the Mets are -125, the O/U is set at 8.5.
Where Could Ohtani Go?
We’re 6 days away from the MLB trade deadline and the biggest ? is what will the LA Angels do with Shohei Ohtani.
The Angels have made it clear that they will not deal him to the Dodgers but some other teams are reportedly in the mix. The Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks are now interested and the O’s might be in the best position to make a move as they have the 2nd lowest payroll in the majors.
The SF Giants, Seattle Mariners, and NY Yankees are all expected to make a push at the trade deadline for Ohtani as well.
NFL Updates
We’re getting close to the NFL season and today marks the day that all teams will have their Veterans on site for training camp.
First off, if you’re looking to check out your team at their training camp here’s where you can find them.
Secondly, we’ve got some player updates as camp is underway.
Broncos Take a Hit on Defense
2nd-year player and 2022 4th-round draft pick Eyioma Uwazurike will not be playing defensive end for the Broncos this year. He has been suspended by the NFL for betting on league games during the 2022 season. We will say it again…. STOP BETTING ON NFL GAMES IF YOU PLAY IN THE LEAGUE!
Bills Special Teams Take on Special Injury
Kick Returner and RB Nyheim Hines is expected to miss the entire 2023 season for the Bills after he tore his ACL. He didn’t touch the ball out of the backfield much last year but he did return 2 kickoffs for TDs and averaged 30 yards per return. Oh and how did he tear his ACL? He was sitting still on his jet ski when another jet ski hit him. You can’t make this up.
Saquon Gets His $909,000 Bag… Or Does He?
The NY Giants and Saquon Barkley have compromised and agreed to a 1-year deal worth up to $11 million. Confused because he was holding out over the franchise tag that was a $10.1 million deal? So are we.
Saquon's new deal includes the $10.1 million, fully guaranteed, a $2 mil signing bonus, and a potential $909,000 in incentives.
To be precise, Giants’ RB Saquon Barkley had $909,000 worth of incentives added to his deal for three categories:

Women’s World Cup
We’re about a third of the way through the group stages of the Womens’ World Cup. Most teams will play their 2nd and 3rd over the course of the next 7 days and the round of 16 will start next Saturday. Here are the current standings.

That’s all for today. Have yourself a Tuesday
