Sundays Are Back!

Sundays are officialy back and I’m here for it. It was a sloppy day around the NFL, and we don’t just mean playing conditions. Teams need will undoubtedly clean some things up, expand the playbook, and get a better understanding of the teams and schemes they are playing against, but week 1 was still a good one. Let’s recap and cover a few other things today as well.

Sundays Are Back

We had 14 games on Sunday and we'd keep you here way to long to break them all down. Speed is the name of the game here.

Dallas Cowboys 40

New York Giants 0

  • This one is all about the Cowboys defense + special teams. The Cowboys blocked a field goal and returned it 58 yards for a TD. They also had a pick 6 and another INT and sacked Daniel Jones 7 times. The Cowboys defense held “Danny Dimes” to just 104 passing yards.

Miami Dolphins 36

Los Angeles Chargers 34

  • This might have been the best game of the day. Tua threw for 466 yards and 3 TDs for the Dolphins but the Chargers offense looked pretty good too. They Chargers ran for 234 and won the turnover battle but the Tua and Tyreek Hill proved to be too much to handle.

Philadelphia Eagles 25

New England Patriots 20

  • The Patriots big mistake came on a pick 6 in the first quarter and a fumble that the Eagles recovered and grabbed another touchdown off but other than that, they looked okay. The Eagles were happy to escape Foxborough with a week 1 win and will look to clean some things up for a week 2 matchup against the Vikings.

Cleveland Browns 24

Cincinnati Bengals 3

  • The Cleveland Browns tore apart the Cincinnati Bengals on sloppy day in Ohio where the Bengals offense was practically non existent. It’s not ideal for the Bengals but chalk it up to their leader and QB Joe Burrow missing all of camp with a calf strain?

San Francisco 49ers 30

Pittsburgh Steelers 7

  • This was start to finish domination by the 49ers and boy do they look good. Brock Purdy picked up where he left off and CMC ran for 152 and a TD.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20

Minnesota Vikings 17

  • Baker Mayfield made some big time plays for the Bucs and the Vikings ended up 3 points short on the wrong side of the scoreboard(The Vikings had various games last year that they easily could’ve lost but just snuck by with a W…it likely won’t be the same this year)

Jacksonville Jaguars 31

Indianapolis Colts 21

  • Anthony Richardson had a decent NFL debut as QB for the Colts. The big thing he needs to work??? Not taking the BIG hits. For the Jags, getting Calvin Ridley back is a game changer as he caught 8 passes for 101 yards and a TD.

Baltimore Ravens 25

Houston Texans 9

  • The Ravens offense looked good on Sunday but they had a terrible blow when RB J.K. Dobbins ruptured his achilles. The Ravens’ defense put on a impressive show during CJ Stroud’s debut for the Texans.

Los Angeles Rams 30

Seattle Seahawks 13

  • Is the Geno hype over in Seattle? We’re not exactly sure. We do know that even without Cooper Kupp, the Rams offense looked good out there and rookie receiver Puka Nacua cuagh 10 passes for 119 yards in his first career game.

Green Bay Packers 38

 Chicago Bears 20

  • The Packers have somehow transitioned to another good QB after Jordan Love had a great 2nd career start. He was 15/27 throwing for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Washington Commanders 20

Arizona Cardinals 16

  • The Commanders are lucky to sneak out a win after being sacked 6 times by the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are expected to finish last in the league, but they’re pass rush seems formidable.

Atlanta Falcons 24

Carolina Panthers 10

  • It was all about the backfield for the Falcons’ on Sunday. Rookie RB Bijan Robinson did exactly what was expected on Sunday, he ran the ball well and made some plays out of the backfield with some receptions including a beautiful TD catch + run. RB Tyler Allgeier also ran for two TDS. The Panthers have some things to clean up after Rookie QB Bryce Young threw 2 INTs in his first start.

Las Vegas Raiders 17

Denver Broncos 16

  • Jimmy G pulled out a win in his first start as a Raider and the Broncos could have easily won this game for HC Sean Payton. A missed PAT and field goal were the difference maker. Look for Denver to get better next week.

New Orleans Saints 16

Tennessee Titans 15

  • Ryan Tannehill was pretty bad and that’s all we need to say.

Monday Night Football

Don’t forget that you’ve still got a great Monday Night Football game tonight. The Buffalo Bills travel to East Rutherford, NJ to take on the NY Jets and their new QB Aaron Rodgers. Gametime is set for 8:15 pm ET and will be on ESPN and ABC(sorry if you still have Spectrum Cable). The Bills are giving 2 points on the road and the O/U is 44.5.

Hopefully the home team doesn’t get blown out again at Metlife Stadium.

US Open

Novak Djokovic won the 2023 US Open men's singles final, defeating Daniil Medvedev with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. In a roller coaster match, Djokovic was facing fatigue as Medvedev played well from the baseline all day. Even with Medvedev’s talented return game, Djokovic didn’t face a breakpoint until midway through the second set. Medvedev’s service game was lacking when compared to his serving that helped him beat Carlos Alcaraz in the semis.

Even with Djokovic being tired and having to stretch in between games and sets, he still managed to grab his 24th title by winning in straight sets. Djokovic is 36 years old and his stats are kind of wild. In his 20s he went 12-9 in grand slam finals. Now only midway through his 30s, he’s 12-3 in grand slam finals.

Germany Wins The FIBA Gold

Team Germany won the FIBA World Cup after defeating Serbia 83-77 on Sunday. Dennis Schroder scored 28 points, Franz Wagner added 19 and Germany went undefeated throughout the tournament. Germany is the fifth consecutive champion to go unbeaten. This is the first time that Germany has won the FIBA World Cup.

First Team To Clinch

The Atlanta Braves are the first team in the MLB to clinch a playoff berth this season. The Braves have the best record in baseball at 93-49 and this is their sixth straight season reaching the postseason.

The Braves clinched on a come from behind win to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 last night.

Have a great week!
