Super Bowl Sunday + WASTED Management Open

It's been 22 weeks and 4 days since the NFL season started, and we have finally arrived at Super Bowl Sunday. Time sure does fly!

We’re going to run through a bunch of items Super Bowl-related and then round out the day with a little golf.

Let’s go.

Super Bowl LVIII (Super Bowl 58 for the non-Romans)

Do we dare start with? We’re not trying to be Anti-Hero here, but we need you to calm down. First things first, Taylor Swift’s private jet through the Blank Space, which is the Pacific Ocean’s air, and she will be at the game tonight. Here’s the question: if the Chiefs win, does Travis Kelce propose? In your Wildest Dreams!

Alright, that’s enough of that. Back on track!

We’ve got star coaches and star players meeting Las Vegas today for SB 58. The San Francisco 49ers are representing the NFC, and the Kansas City Chiefs represent the AFC, and the Chiefs are looking to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

📺️ Whether you’re tuning in to watch the commercials or you actually want to watch the game, you’ll need to have it on CBS at 6:30 pm ET tonight.

Looking to gamble?

💰️ The 49ers opened as a 2.5 point favorite and the line has moved down 1.5 and in some cases, just 2 points.. Yup, you’re reading that correctly. Patrick Mahomes will be a 1.5-point underdog in the Super Bowl. The points total is 47.5. So far, 61% of the money is on the Chiefs to cover the spread, and 70% of the money is on the over.

Here’s a couple of player props I’m looking to bet on

💲Christian McCaffrey under 89.5 rushing yards -110

💲CMC over 33.5 receiving yards -110

💲Isiah Pacheco over 67.5 rushing yards -110

💲Brock Purdy over 12.5 rushing yards -110

💲Chris Jones to record a sack +132

💲Travis Kelce over 6.5 receptions -6.5

🪙 If you need to bet the coin toss, I’m a tails never fails guy….BUT… I’m feeling the heads today. I’m taking heads -104!

So, what’s going to happen out there today?

I think the better way to ask the question is, how can either team win? So….

How do the Niners get this W?

The best path to victory for the 49ers is through CMC and Deebo Samuel. If those two can get the run game working, that will relieve much pressure for Brock Purdy, especially as KC has a great passing defense. The 49ers should do what the Ravens didn’t, and that is stick to what’s made them successful all season. Ground game, short passes to CMC and Deebo, who are elite after the catch, and then take some shots downfield.

There is always the other side of the ball, and the 49ers defense has to face Patrick Mahomes. Now, the Ravens were able to shut down Mahomes and co. for about 35 minutes of play in the AFC championship and maybe SF can take a page out of their book. Stopping Mahomes and Pacheco is easier said than done, though. The 49ers front hasn’t been great against the run all year, which the Chiefs will try to exploit. SF has two extra dudes on the roster who will bolster their run D. The key here isn’t necessarily to stop the run game, but it’s to limit the amount of clock Mahomes can chew. The way to do that is to get an early lead and force the Chiefs to pick up the pace a bit. Again, easier said than done.

So, keys for the 49ers. Stick to the offensive game plan, execute the first 20 scripted plays perfectly, grab a quick lead, and limit big run plays.

How do the Chiefs get the “upset”?

Let’s start with the offense. They have one thing going for them. They have Patrick Mahomes. The next thing they’ll need to have is pretty good games from their receivers and offensive line. It’s a low standard this year for the receivers, so really, that just means don’t drop the easy balls. For the O-line, it will be a little more than just not dropping a ball. The Chiefs have been running more plays with an extra lineman or extra TE than in the regular season. They’re trying to get a little bigger in the interior, as the O-line isn’t the roster's highlight for KC. KC needs to shut down a four-man pass rush and needs to move some guys on the ground game so Pacheco can run hard. If Pacheco can get the wheels moving, you can expect Mahomes to get more time to throw, and that’s when the magic can happen.

On the defensive side, you gotta be glad you had two weeks to prepare for all the playmakers that SF has. The Chiefs have playmakers in the secondary, but the focus will be reducing explosive run plays and limited yards after the catch on short throws. The Chiefs haven’t been great against the run especially in the first half, that will be a weakness today. If the Chiefs can bring the run pressure and throw off SF’s game plan, they’ll be in the hunt all day.

So this one is simple for the Chiefs. Stop the run, get the ball back into Mahomes’ hands, run the ball with Pacheco, and let Mahomes cook.

Waste Management Open

It’s been a weird week on the PGA Tour. Rain delays, cold weather, closed gates, and beer sales stopped?! Yup, with the cold temps and all the rains, it appears the fans have been drinking themselves a coat. Well, I guess you could blame it on alc, alc, alc, and alcohol because the rowdiness became too much. There were multiple instances of people being escorted out by the police after they ran on the course, the police had to shut down the entry gates and the venue had to halt beer sales because it was too much of a ruckus.

This is all okay because we’ve got a marathon on Sunday in hopes of crowning a winner before the sun goes down. It’s a weird setup for a Sunday as the Tour has decided to start some groups on their 4th round before the 3rd concludes for other groups. Players like Sahith Theegala, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth are finishing their 3rd rounds in the morning and early afternoon. They’ll have a short break, then return to the course to battle it out for the final round in the afternoon.

If you’re getting confused it’s okay, it’s confusing for us all. Tune into ESPN+ or The Golf Channel at 1 pm ET, and they’ll explain it every few minutes.

Who knows, maybe we’ll get bonus golf on a Monday!

p.s. If you want to know about the ruckus, check out these clips from Twitter.

All right, that’s it for today. Enjoy the big game tonight and feel free to skip work tomorrow. That’s right, don’t let those Mondays ruin your Sundays!
