A Supermax Wednesday
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes and 51 Seconds
Happy Wednesday. We’ve got a mix of news from Tuesday that you’ve probably heard about and some that might not have crossed your path yet. If you had a busy Tuesday, this might all be new for you.
It’s tough to decide where we should start, but here’s what we got today:
💸 Jaylen Brown Gets The Supermax
🏀 Bronny Update
⚾️ Mets Show Up In The Bronx
🏈 Who Got Their 💰️ + Who Didn’t Show
🏈 Problems For Jimmy Harbaugh
⚽️ Messi Shows Off
⚽️ Women’s World Cup
We’ll try to breeze through each topic so we can get you in and out in 5 minutes. Let’s go.
Jaylen Brown Gets Richest Deal In History
Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract. This is the richest deal in NBA history and what’s surprising is Brown probably isn’t one of the top 15 players in the league.
He’s set to make about $53 million next season with a $4 million dollar increase coming every year for the next 4 years.
That’s right, Jaylen Brown will make around $69 million in the 2028-2029 season… maybe he’ll learn how to dribble by then.
Want to know what’s kind of crazy? Jayson Tatum, a top 5 player in the NBA, and Brown’s teammate signed a 5-year deal worth almost half of this just two years ago.
Someone owes someone dinner in the North End.
….
We should note: This contract seems outrageous, but with salary caps increasing and more money coming in from TV rights, we’re going to see bigger contracts than this in the not-so-distant future.
On to the next one.
Bronny James Update
During practice at USC yesterday, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest event and was brought to the ICU. With swift action from the USC medical team, Bronny received immediate attention and it’s reported that he is in stable condition and out of the ICU.
Mets Show Up
The New York Mets’ home runs might have traveled farther than the Mets players did for this game.
The Mets showed up in the Bronx last night and put a whooping on the Yanks..OR.. the Yanks didn’t show up at all… I don’t care how you put it, it just wasn’t a good look for the Yankees.
The Mets came right out of the gates with a run in the first inning and 3 more in the fourth. The Mets would score 3 more runs and have a 7-0 lead before the Yankees would score 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.
The Mets would win this one 9-3 with the help of 5 RBIs from Pete Alonso which included 2 home runs. Daniel Vogelbach would also hit a home run and Jeff McNeil would drive in 3 RBIs.
The Yanks and Mets will face off tonight at 7:05 pm ET on ESPN+ in what is likely the last meetup of the two teams for the rest of the year.
NFL Extensions + Camp No Shows
All NFL teams have had minicamp start and it’s that wonderful time of the year when some guys are getting extensions and others are holding out.
Who Got Extensions?
Justin Herbert: The Chargers and Justin Herbert have agreed to a 5-year extension worth $262.5 million, making him the highest-paid QB in the league
Trevon Diggs: The Cowboys have signed CB Trevon Diggs to a 5-year extension worth $97 million that includes a $21.5 million signing bonus. Diggs is only 24 years old.
Who Didn’t Show Up To Practice?
Josh Jacobs: The Raiders RB did not report for the first day of training camp after the team and Jacobs could not agree on a long-term contract. Jacobs still hasn’t signed his franchise tag.
Zack Martin: The Cowboys’ All-Pro guard and captain did not report to camp and is unhappy with his current contract as he’s been looking to rework his deal with the team.
Problems For Harbaugh In Michigan
Jim Harbaugh is reportedly working on a deal with the NCAA to be suspended for 4 games this year as he committed a recruiting violation during the pandemic recruiting freeze and failed to report it to the NCAA. Read more on this here.
Messi Shows Off
Lionel Messi made his first start with Inter Miami on Tuesday night against Atlanta United and he showed off. Messi score twice and had an assist in the matchup. Miami had a 3-0 lead at the half, which the team has never had before and they went on to win 4-0.
USWNT World Cup Matchup Tonight
The US Women’s National Team will face the Netherlands in a Group E matchup at 9:00 pm ET. The game will be broadcasted on FOX. The US and Netherlands both have 3 points after winning their first games in the group stage and the US currently has the goal differential in their favor by 2 goals.
Have a great Wednesday!
