Here we go.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament

We had some thrillers over the weekend with the men’s tournament and the women finished their first and second round action on Monday night. The women provided some thrillers and upsets as teams battled to get into the Sweet 16.

On Sunday at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion, the 8 seeded Ole Miss Rebels upset the 1 seeded Stanford Cardinals 54-49.

This was followed up by another major upset on Monday night when the 1 seeded Indiana Hoosiers where upset by the 9 seeded Miami Hurricanes 70-68 on a last second jumper.

Miami hasn’t been to a Sweet 16 since 1992 and will face the 4 seeded Villanova Wildcats, who haven’t made it this far since 2002.

South Carolina and Virginia Tech who are the other No. 1 seeds are still alive. Sweet 16 actions kicks off on Friday for the Women’s Tournament.

NHL Playoff Picture

We’re about 4 weeks out from the wild card round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Depending on scheduling, teams have 11, 12, 13 or 14 games left in the season and still only team has clinched a playoff berth and that’s the Boston Bruins.

The top 3 teams from each division clinch a playoff spot and the next 2 best teams in each conference get a wild card spot. Here’s who would be in the playoffs if we used today’s standings.

NBA Playoff Picture

We’re a little over 3 weeks away from the NBA postseason. The Play-In Tournament begins April 11 and the Playoffs begin April 15. We’ll do a deeper dive into the standings early next week, but here’s a few things to know right now.

  • The Bucks, Celtics, and Nuggets have all clinched a playoff spot

  • In the West, spots 4-12 are separated by just four games and spots 6-12 are within two games of each other

  • The separation in the East is greater, spots 4-12 are 12.5 games apart

  • The LA Lakers currently sit ½ a game outside of the play-in tournament

We’ll be going back to the NCAA tournament later in the week and we might keep the NBA updates limited. We’ll be sure to include any playoff clinches or major news.

World Baseball Classic Final

On Monday night, Japan pulled off an epic comeback in the World Baseball Classic to beat Mexico in the semifinal. Japan trailed 3-0 in the 7th inning and had a two-run walk off that hit the center field wall for Japan to get the win.

With Mexico losing in the semi finals they’ll be watching the final from the couch, enjoying taco Tuesday like everyone else. Grab your tortillas and watch as Japan will face USA in the final tonight at 7pm on FS1.

Cam Newton Is Having a Pro Day?

Pro Days on college campuses are usually for the college athletes to showcase their talents and meet with teams in a bid to get drafted. Cam Newtown had his pro day at Auburn 12 years ago. And now[insert confusion] he’s having another one🤔.

Newtown is throwing at Auburn’s Pro Day today in an effort to show that he can still be a top 32 QB in the NFL. While I can’t imagine front offices will want to sign him based on this Pro Day performance, it will definitely be nice for the skill players at Auburn to have a NFL talent firing the pigskin.

Want to see how Cam made his Pro Day announcement? Check it out.

That’s all for today.

Have a good one!
