All it takes is a weekend...
Hola!
We hope you all had a fantastic Saturday and an even better Sunday. We had a big weekend where some playoff series got smoothed out, and we’ve got some more exciting sports coming this week.
Let’s do a quick recap and see what’s going on tonight.
Clap Back In The Playoffs
🏀 The Pacers responded to going down 0-2 to the Knicks with two wins in Indianapolis. The Pacers snuck by in a close one on Friday night, where they outrebounded the Knicks in the game's final minutes to win 111-106. The momentum was almost in New York's favor, where the Pacers would have to win 4 straight to win the series, but after the game 3 wins, and the Knicks were playing with about 6 players, the Pacers dominated game 4. The Pacers won game 4 121-89 on a night where zero shots were dropping for New York, and everything was going in for Indiana. We’ll see you tomorrow night for game 5
🏀 Just when you think the Nuggets will be sent home in the 2nd round of the playoffs, they hit the road and surprise you. Jamal Murray finally showed up for the Nuggets in game 3 where they beat Minnestoa by 27. Game 4 was a little closer, but Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon shined for Denver. Gordon had 27, and Jokic scored 35 in a 115-107 win. Anthony Edwards put up 44 in game 4 after only scoring 19 in game 3.
🏀 The Celtics went up two games to one after beating the Cavs 106-93 on Saturday. It was a normal Boston game, where the Celtics just played sound basketball all day and stepped up the defense in the second and third quarters. Jayson Tatum scored 33, and Jaylen Brown put up 28.
🏀 The Dallas Mavericks are up 2-1 in their series against the OKC Thunder. Dallas got worked in game one and has found a way to win that doesn’t really require Luka Donic to have a 30+ point triple-double. The Mavs got 27 from P.J. Washington and Kyrie added 22 on top of Luka’s 22. Game 4 is in Dallas and the Thunder need to win this so they don’t go down 3-1.
Stanley Cup Playoffs Are Heating Up
🏒 The New York Rangers suffered their first loss in the playoffs after losing to the Hurricanes 4-3 on Saturday. The game was all tied up, but Carolina would get the go-ahead goal when Brady Skjei scored on a power play with 3:11 left in the game. The Rangers will look to close out the series tonight in game 5.
🏒 The Dallas Stars took a 2-1 lead in their series against the Colorado Avalanche after Dallas got a 4-1 win game 3. Tyler Seguin scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and then Dallas scored two more empty netters late in the third.
🏒 The Boston Bruins hosted the Florida Panthers in game 4 of their series and with the B’s down 2-1 in the series, they had a 2-0 lead in this game. The Panthers scored 3 unanswered goals in the final 26 minutes of the game to get the W, and now Boston has to travel to Florida for game 5 on the brink of elimination.
🏒 The battle for bragging rights in Canada is still up for grabs. The Canucks beat the Oilers in game 1 at home then the Oilers stole a win on the road. Game 3 was another stellar matchup where the Canucks stole a game of their own on the road thanks to the help of Brock Boeser, who assisted on a power play goal and scored 2 of his own in the first period. Vancouver would win game 3, 4-3. Game 4 will remain in Edmonton.
Some other news
⛳️ Rory McIlroy won a record 4th Wells Fargo Championship after shooting a 6-under round on the tournament's final day. Rory finished the event at 17-under and this should give him some momentum for the PGA Championship starting this Thursday.
⛳️ The PGA Championship is going to another awesome major that will include 16 golfers from LIV. The lineup of LIV players to tee it up in Lousiville includes Bryson, Taylor Gooch, Tyrrell Hatton, Lucas Herbert, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Brooksy, Adrian Meronk, Phil Mickelson, Joaquin Niemann, Andy Ogletree, David Puig, Patrick Reed, Cam Smith, & John Rahm.
🏀 WNBA star A’ja Wilson is getting a Nike shoe deal where the kicks will be called the A’Ones. There are no financial details on the deal, but we know the shoes will come out in 2025. This news comes a few days after it was announced that Caitlin Clark has reportedly signed a $28 million deal with Nike.
🏀 The Atlanta Hawks won the NBA’s draft lottery despite having a 3% chance to get the 1st overall pick. This is considered to be one of the weaker draft classes in many years, and it could be another Frenchman going first, where Zaccharie Risacher and Alexandre Sarr sit at the top of a lot of draft boards. Stephon Castle from UConn and Rob Dillingham from Kentucky are some of the top-ranked NCAA players being considered. The Spurs will have two top-10 picks in this draft.
🏀 Bronny James is expected to stay in the NBA draft after he was medically cleared by the NBA’s fitness to play panel. Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19 minutes of game play for USC this year after suffering a cardiac arrest event in the preseason.
🏈 The first NFL game for the 2024-2025 season is scheduled! We’ll have an AFC Championship rematch with the Chiefs facing the Ravens on September 5. It’s a Thursday night game that will be played in Kansas City. LETS GOOOOOOOOO!
