Texas Rangers Bring Home 1st World Series
+ All Chairs Are Removed From Heaven
Good Morning and Happy Thursday, we’re getting closer to the weekend and we’re set up for another sick Saturday of college football. Before we get to that we’ve got to shout out the Texas Rangers for winning their first-ever World Series! We’re happy for anyone who wins and isn’t named the Houston Astros!
We’re talking all 4 major sports today so let’s get started.
World Series Game 5 (Texas Wins Series 4-1)
Texas Rangers 5 | Arizona Diamondbacks 0
🏆️ Texas Rangers won the World Series last night, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 in Game 5. It was the Rangers' first World Series title in franchise history.
⚾️ The Rangers were led by their pitching staff, which held the Diamondbacks to 5 hits in the game. Nathan Eovaldi started the game and pitched six scoreless innings. He struck out 5 batters and walked 4. Aroldis Chapman and Josh Sborz finished the game with 3 scoreless innings
💪 Marcus Semien was the offensive star for the Rangers last night, hitting a home run and driving in two runs.
🏅 Corey Seager was named MVP of the World Series for the 2nd time in his career
⌛️ The Rangers' victory was a long time coming. They made back-to-back trips to the World Series in 2010 and 2011 but came up short.
Here are some wild stats from the postseason:
🤯 The Rangers finished the postseason with a perfect 11-0 record on the road. This is the best road record in a single postseason in MLB history.
🤯 The Rangers had a +42 run differential, the highest ever in a single postseason
🤯 Evan Carter hit nine doubles in the postseason, the most any player.
🤯 Corey Seager's three home runs in the World Series are the most by a Rangers player in a single World Series.
🤯 Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen was throwing a great game too but the Rangers are the 2nd team in postseason history to win a game in which they had no hits and no runs through six innings.
Bob Knight Passes Away At 83
Bob Knight passed away in his Bloomington, Indiana home last night. He was a legendary college basketball coach who won three NCAA championships at Indiana and the Olympic gold medal in 1984. He’s coached numerous stars and has an impressive coaching tree. He’s also got one helluva chair toss. You can read more about Coach Knight here and watch a video of him losing his temper below.
NBA News
Boston Celtics Dropped 155 points last night
🏀 The Celtics defeated the Indiana Pacers 155-104 last night. All 13 players from the Celtics played and everyone scored. Jayson Tatum led the team with 30 points and 7 other players scored double-digit points.
🤯 This 2nd highest points score by a Celtics team. During the 1958-1959 season, Boston put up 173 points on a Minneapolis team.
Lakers Beat Clippers in an overtime LA Showdown
🏀LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers snapped an 11-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Clippers with a 130-125 overtime victory on Wednesday night. James had 35 points and 11 rebounds. D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Davis scored 27 last night. Austin Reaves scored seven points in overtime and finished with 15. The Lakers hadn't beaten the Clippers at home since Christmas 2016.
🏀 Kawhi Leonard had 38 for the Clippers and Paul George scored 35.
Denver Nuggets Lose Their First Game of the Season
🏀 Anthony Edwards led the Minnesota Timberwolves to a win over the defending NBA Champions last night. Edwards scored 24 points and had help from Karl-Anthony Towns who added 21.
🏀 Nikola Jokic finished with 25 points and Jamal Murray had 14 for the Nuggets.
NHL News
Ottawa Senators Fire GM
🏒 The Ottowa Senators have fired GM Pierre Dorion. This happened just hours after the NHL handed down a stiff penalty that will dock a 1st round draft pick from the organization in one of the next 3 drafts. Dorion failed to disclose forward Evgenii Dadonov's no-trade clause to the Vegas Golden Knights upon trading him.
The Montreal Canadiens Are Worth How Much?
💸 Michael Andlauer, who recently bought the Ottawa Senators for $950 millie, sold his 10% minority interest in the Montreal Canadiens to the Molson family, who owns a controlling stake in the team. The Habs were valued at a record $2.5 billion, making it the most expensive NHL team sale to date.
NFL News + Thursday Night Football
Raiders Fire Head Coach and GM
📉 After a rough 3-5 start to the season, the Las Vegas Raiders fired HC Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. The Raiders named linebackers coach Antonio Pierce(yup the old Giants linebacker) as the interim head coach and assistant GM Champ Kelly as the interim general manager. The club will undergo a "comprehensive search" to fill both roles in the offseason.
TNF
We’ve got a matchup between the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers in what might be our first “meh” Thursday night game.
📺️Jeff Bezos is still running the world so you know this game is on Prime Video. Gametime is set for 8:15 pm ET and is in Pittsburgh.
💪 Ryan Tannehill is ruled out again this week so Will Levis will start his 2nd game for the Titans. Levis had his NFL debut just 4 days ago and threw 4 TDs.
❤️🩹 DeAndre Hopkins is expected to play tonight after dealing with a toe injury. Hopkins had 128 receiving yards and 3 TDs on Sunday.
❤️🩹 Kenny Pickett is cleared to play tonight for the Steelers, but he did suffer a rib injury on Sunday so I’m not sure how it will impact his play
💰️ Pittsburgh is a -2.5 point favorite and the O/U is 36.5. I might take Tennessee and the over in this one. I don’t think Levis will have a showout day like Sunday but the Steelers are a little light in the secondary as Minkah Fitzpatrick is out with an injury and CB Levi Wallace is questionable.
