That's a lot of zeroes

Good Morning, this is The Daily Breakroom. The email that tells you what’s going in sports so you don’t need to listen to Doug at the water cooler.

In today’s email we’ll talk about

  • 🏈 The NFL salary cap

  • 🏀 Performance of the day

  • ⚽️ Manchester United injuries

🏈 Show me the money!

Let's talk salaries. No, not our normal peasant salaries but NFL salaries. The NFL just raised the salary cap $16.6 million to a record $224,800,000 for next season. With free agency starting in 43 days, we'll be discussing stars, players on the rise, and those still having very productive careers. With the increase, one can be curious, will teams spread the wealth and build up their roster with O-Lineman, edge rushers, or lock down corners? Or will the teams in need of a QB spend all that extra moolah on a guy that they're not even sure will really work out in the long term?

🏀 Performance of the Day

An ankle sprain didn’t keep Dallas Mavericks star, Luka Doncic out for long. the 6’7” Point Guard put up 53 points in a 111-105 win vs the Detroit Piston last night. And he didn’t do it by shooting every position. He was 17-24, shooting 70% and went to the free throw line 18 times, knocking down 14. It must be nice to be 23 years old and recover from an ankle injury that quickly.

There were some other big scorers in the NBA last night. Click the insta post to check them out.

⚽️ Injuries across the pond

Manchester United, who is 4th in the English Premier League standings is taking a roster hit as Star Midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered an ankle injury. He’s expected to be out for 3 months but Man United is hoping he can make a speedy recovery as they try to climb the standings. They are 11 points behind league leading Arsenal (50 points). You get 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss in the Premier League. Man United, one of the worlds most valuables sports teams, hasn’t won the Premier League since 2013.
