There's A New Golf Merger In Town
Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes and 31 seconds
Good Morning, we’ve got some big things going down in all the swinging sports. Here’s what we got today:
Golf Tours Merging
Game 3 NBA Finals
MLB Injuries
Luis Arraez Succes In The Batters Box
Let’s get to it.
Tours Merging
You’ve probably heard the news and if so, you likely were as surprised as everyone else. It was announced Tuesday that the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour were merging with LIV Golf, which is owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. This will effectively end any lawsuits between the organizations and bring the game of golf back together.
There aren’t any specifics on how the tournaments will pan out, who will play and where they will, and what type of events we’ll be seeing. The PGA Tour was already planning some events for next season that were looking similar to LIV. The Tour was going to have smaller fields and guaranteed payouts in a few events, adding to a number of elevated events this season that have higher payouts for those making the cut.
What’s weird about this is that the PGA Tour is suppose to be a player focused organization, after all, the golfers are the product. It’s almost alarming how this decision to merge with LIV happened with very few individuals hearing or knowing about it. The LIV golfers were also shocked as much as the PGA Tour golfers.
What really makes it bogus is that many PGA Tour players were sticking their necks out week after week defending the Tour and denouncing LIV Golf. Many of the PGA players declined MASSIVE offers to join LIV and were now blindsided by the organization they were helping to protect. Guys like Rory, John Rahm, and Rickie Fowler, all said not to massive paydays by trying to to maintain the integrity of the game, or so they thought.
Byrson DeChambeau told CNN “I do feel bad for the PGA Tour players because they were told one thing and something else happened, and our side, we were told one thing and it’s come to fruition”. We feel bad for the Tour players as well. It sounds like this really came down to a few suits not wanting to get into the nitty gritty in the courtroom and having the financials scrutinized. Just a couple of business men, keeping people out to protect themselves(doesn’t sound anything like the game of golf!)
NBA Finals
Did we mention yesterday that the Nuggets were up 2-0 in the NBA Finals?
Yup
Did we take the Heat straight up to win game 2?
Yup
Did we watch the game and witness the Heat win?
Yup
Do we wear glasses and call ourselves Clark Kent?
Nope
Sorry, we’re not Superman over here and sometimes our brain doesn’t work behind the keyboard.
Anyways, we’ve got game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight and the series is TIED 1-1. Tune in to ABC at 8:30 pm ET to watch the Miami Heat host the Denver Nuggets.
The Heat are getting 2.5 points and the O/U is 214.5.
MLB Injuries
Jacob deGrom will have surgery to repair a tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament. This will cut his first season with the American League West-leading Texas Rangers short. deGrom signed a five-year, $185 million deal in the offseason. He will have Tommy John surgery on the UCL which is the same exact procedure the 49ers QB Brocky Purdy underwent after being injured in the NFC Championship.
Aaron Judge has been placed on the NY Yankees 10 day injured list. He injured his big toe when he ran through the LA Dodgers fence making a catch against through the wall the other day.
Luis Arraez’s Success In The Batter’s Box
Luis Arraez is batting above .400 and hitting marks that haven’t been hit in quite a while. No one has batted .400 or better 62 games into the season since Chipper Jones did it in 2008, when Jones had a .421 average. Not only is Arraez having another great season, the Marlins are winning too. Miami is currently 2nd in the NL East with a 34-28 record.
That’s all for today. Enjoy your Wednesday!
