Thirsty Thursday Night Scoreboard

Playoff hockey was in full action the last two nights. We had a combined 59 goals scored over 8 games from Wednesday and Thursday. It almost doesn’t seem like anyone is tending a net when the skaters keep serving fresh goals on the ice.

Let’s carry on with scores and a few bullet points from each game.

New York Rangers 5

New Jersey Devils 1

  • Rangers scored 2 goals on 7 powerplays and Devils went 1 for 4 on powerplays

  • Kreider scored 2 goals in the matchup for the Rangers after putting 2 in the net on Tuesday

  • In an effort to reduce any chance of suspension, refs ejected 5 players from each team during the 3rd period as things got chippy

  • The next two games head 10 miles east to Madison Square Garden with the Rangers up 2-0 in the series

Tampa Bay Lightning 2

Toronto Maple Leafs 7

  • The Maple Leafs returned the favor to the Lightning after a Tuesday night home loss

  • John Tavares recorded a hat trick for the Leafs

  • Toronto went 2 for 6 on power plays and the Lightning came up empty handed on their 3 power plays(both teams had top 5 PP% in the regular season)

Winnipeg Jets 2

Vegas Golden Knights 5

  • Vegas gets their revenge over Winnipeg and records a home win before they head north for game 3 and 4.

  • The Golden Knights were down 1-0 at the end of the 1st period but put 2 goals in the net in the 2nd and 3 in the final period

  • Vegas had goals from 4 different players, including 2 from Mark Stone

Seattle Kraken 2

Colorado Avalanche 3

  • Seattle came out strong scoring their first goal in the first 3 minutes of the game and then a later one in the first period

  • Colorado outshot Seattle 41-29 and eventually put 2 in the net during the 2nd period and scored the go ahead in the 3rd

NBA Scoreboard and Matchups

Thursday night brought some odd calls from the refs, championship play and some surprising scratches. Let’s get into it.

Philadelphia 76ers 102

Brooklyn Nets 97

  • The 76ers got a little help from the refs to go up 3-0 in the series

  • Tyrese Maxey scored 25 for Philly with some big plays at the end of the game

  • James Harden had 21 before being ejected at the end of the 3rd for an elbow to the groin of Royce O’Neale

  • Joel Embiid and Nic Claxton had a scuffle early in the game and Claxton was ejected when he taunted Embiid after a dunk and the Nets were up 6 at this point (more on this in a second)

  • Joel Embiid a had game saving block with 8 seconds to go

Check out how Claxton’s ejection unraveled. It started when Claxton first stepped over Embiid after an alley-oop early in the first quarter. Embiid probably should’ve been ejected for this kick but was allowed to stay in after only receiving a flagrant 1. Claxton also got a technical for the step over. Claxton then taunted Embiid again in the 4th and he was ejected. Playoff ball is a competitive time and players should be able to handle a little taunting and so should the refs.

Sacramento Kings 97

Golden State Warriors 114

  • The Warriors didn’t miss a beat without Draymond Green in the lineup

  • Steph Curry put up 36 in the win going 6 for 12 from 3 point land

  • Kevon Looney had a great defensive night filling in for Draymond and held Domantas Sabonis to only 15 points

Phoenix Suns 129

LA Clippers 124

  • The Clippers had a surprise scratch with Kawhi Leonard sitting out with a knee sprain

  • Devin Booker dropped 45 for the Suns taking on the brunt of the work

  • KD also put up 28 points for the Suns

  • Norman Powell and Russell Westbrook put up 42 and 30 for the Clippers, respectively

  • Suns are up 2-1 in the series

Tonight’s Matchups

Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks, 7:00pm on ESPN

  • Boston leads series 2-0

Cleveland Cavaliers at New York Knicks, 8:30pm on ABC

  • Series tied 1-1

Denver Nuggets at Minnesota Timberwolves, 9:30pm on ESPN

  • Denver leads series 2-0

🥊Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.. Literally

Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia both guaranteed they will break each other’s jaws this Saturday when they square off in a 136 pound fight. The fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be pay-per-view with the bouts starting at 8pm ET.

Would you take the quick hands of Ryan Garcia at +190 odds or take “Tank” Davis at -230?

That’s all for today. Enjoy your happy hours.

Cheers!
