Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes and 55 seconds

Good Morning,

This is the Daily Breakroom and we’ve got better hairlines than Stephen A. Smith and Derrick White.

wait.. why are we starting out with hairlines?

Shaq and Charles Barkley were roasting Derrick White’s hairline the other night and had to drag Stephen A. into it.

Let’s get back on track. Here’s what we got today:

Tiger Can’t Catch A Break

After making the cut at the Masters, the conditions got the best of Tiger. He withdrew after his plantar fasciitis was reaggravated and we weren’t sure of the next time we’d see him on the course. We were hoping to see him for the next 3 majors at least and all that is looking unlikely as Tiger had surgery yesterday to address some arthritis in his right ankle that was related to the car accident he had in 2021. His recovery is likely to go past the summer so we probably won’t be seeing Tiger for the rest of the 2023 season.

Zurich Classic

The Zurich Classic tees it up today at TPC Louisiana in Avondale. The format of this is tournament is an interesting and fun one. There is a 160 man field that is split into two man teams. The top 80 golfers in the PGA Tour rankings can choose their playing partner as long as the partner has a Tour card or they get a special exemption.

Here’s the format

Thursday: Best Ball, A 2 man team will face another 2 man team and each golfer will play their own ball the entire time. Whichever golfer scores better on the hole has their score recorded.

Friday: Alternate Shot, Players on the 2 man teams alternate tee shots each hole. Whoever didn’t tee off will play the 2nd shot and the shots continue to alternate each hole.

There will be a cut on Friday where the top 33 teams make it and they will go back to the best ball format on Saturday and alternate shots on Sunday.

You can stream the event on ESPN+ and also tune in to the GOLF Channel and CBS.

Another Team Leaving Oakland

The Oakland Athletics are turning their attention to Las Vegas. The A’s have agreed to purchase land near the Las Vegas Strip where they plan to build a new 35k seat stadium with a retractable roof. The A’s have been trying to find a new home for years as they currently play in the outdated Oakland Coliseum. The A’s apparently weren’t able to work something out with the City of Oakland and are fully bought in on moving to Vegas where they plan to open the new stadium in 2027.

Any New Is Good News For The Mets (maybe not this time)

In other news, Mets’ pitcher Max Scherzer was ejected in the 4th inning of the Mets’ Wednesday matchup against the LA Dodgers. Umps checked the ace’s glove and found a sticky substance but Scherzer claims it was just rosin, which is legal and used by pitchers to fight sweat in their hands so they can control their pitches. Scherzer will face a 10 game suspension, but he is allowed to appeal.

That’s all the news for today. We’ll see you tomorrow.
