Tigers Woods Is Back

Morning. You can throw the good in front of that if you’re a Tiger Woods fan. Saying Tiger is back might be hyperbole, but you can certainly say he’s returning. We’ll dig into that in just a little bit.

Tiger Makes Return + Debuts Clothing Line

This is one of the final stops for the PGA’s West Coast stretch, and this week, it’s the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades. Tiger Woods plays host for the signature event that includes a $20 million purse with $3.6 million going to the winner. What does it mean for Tiger to host the tournament? Well, each year, proceeds from The Genesis Invitational benefit the educational programs of the TGR Foundation, which was founded by Tiger in 1996. Tiger and his foundation are responsible for much of the fundraising that goes into the event and making sure all the players have a great time.

Who are we going to see playing in this event? Jon Rahm won’t be defending his title as he made the jump to LIV. We will see players like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Brian Harman and Ludvig Åberg, so the field is still pretty stacked.

Tiger Will Be Rocking Sun Day Red

This is the first time in 27 years that Tiger won’t be wearing Nike after the two decided to part ways with each other and Tiger teamed up with Taylormade to create a new brand called “Sun Day Red”, synonymous with Tiger’s tradition of always wearing red on Sundays. Sun Day Red was unveiled the other day, and the reception hasn’t been great. You can read more about the unveiling here, and you can see what reviews, like MyGolfSpy have to say here. I think it’s a pretty underwhelming product line.

Celtics Dominate

The Boston Celtics improved their NBA-leading record to 43-12 as they held the Brooklyn Nets to 55 points in the first three quarters last night in their last game before the All-Star break. Not only was it pure domination for three quarters, the Celtics finished the game out with a score of 136-86. A 50-point win. It was also head coach Joe Mazzulla’s 100th win. Here’s how it went down. Payton Pritchard came off the bench and got 28 points for a team-high. Derrick White scored 27, Tatum scored 20, Kristaps Porzingis was the 4th leading scorer with 15 points. The Nets leading scorer had 15 points. It wasn’t just pure scoring that led to the domination. Sure, the Nets shooting % was down, but they also got outrebounded 51-31.

It was a helluva performance but I still can’t wait for the Celtics to somehow get bounced early from the playoffs.

Caitlin Clark Inches Closes To Scoring Record

Caitlin Clark, an Iowa guard and college basketball’s super scorer, is 8 points away from the NCAA Division 1 scoring title. Clark will have the opportunity to break the record tonight when the Iowa Hawkeyes host Michigan. There are plenty of folks looking to see the record-breaking event, and tickets for tonight’s game in Iowa City are costing upwards of $400. Clark is averaging 32 points per game this season, so I think it’s safe to say that the record will be broken this evening. The game will be on Peacock at 8 pm ET, so if you haven’t canceled that from the NFL Wild Card round, you might want to tune in.

That’s Assault, Brother!

Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart was arrested and cited after an altercation with Phoenix Suns player Drew Eubanks before Wednesday’s NBA game between the two teams. Stewart wasn’t playing in the game due to an ankle injury, but he apparently had enough juice to throw some jabs. The two players reportedly had a confrontation in the hallways of the Suns’ arena, and the cops had to get involved.

Stewart should’ve suited up for the game and then taken care of the business on the court. That’s how Draymond Green does it!

Obviously, the NBA doesn’t want fighting between players on the court or off the court, and Suns head coach Frank Vogel said, “There is no place for anything like that in our game.” My only question is, has Vogel ever seen dudes play basketball not on an NBA court? Because the basketball court is exactly where this stuff happens.

49ers Fire DC

Just three days after losing in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs and possibly the greatest quarterback ever to play, the 49ers have fired their defensive coordinator, Steve Wilks. It was his first year as DC for the team. The 49ers defense gave up the 4th fewest points in the regular season and were top 10 in yards allowed. Did those numbers slip in the playoffs? Yes. What else do you expect when players and coaching staffs are bringing their absolute best stuff week in and week out? The 49ers offense wasn’t the same as in the regular season, either.

Either way, I think it’s crazy that you can be fired in the first year of your job when you have a top defense in the regular season, get to a Super Bowl, have a key player blow out an Achilles in said Super Bowl, hold Patrick Mahomes to zero TDs until your special teams botched a punt and then you lose in overtime. It’s laughable.
