What Trade Just Happened?

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes and 41 seconds

Good Morning from the Daily Breakroom. Today we’ve got sports! Basketball, baseball, golf, lacrosse… you name it, we got it!

Let’s jump right in.

NBA Draft Night

The 2023 NBA Draft is tonight and the first round is being broadcasted on ABC at 7:30 pm ET. It’s the top 3 picks that are the most interesting with Frenchman Victor Wembanayama being the consensus No.1 pick going to the San Antonio Spurs.

Who’s going second is the big question. Will it be Scott Henderson to the Charlotte Hornets and Brandon Miller(more on him at the bottom) to the Portland Trailblazers or the other way around?

Here’s something else that’s interesting, Amen and Ausar Thompson are two 20-year-old twins who skipped their senior year of high school and have been playing in the Overtime Elite program in Atlanta. They’re both projected to be a top 10 pick which would be the first time in history that twins are selected in the top 10 in the same year.

Things Got A Little Crazy Last Night

We had a few things go down, so let’s rapid-fire through some moves.

  • A 3 team deal between the Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, and Memphis Grizzlies is moving some pieces around the NBA. Kristpas Porzingis is going to the Celtics, Marcus Smart is going to the Grizz, and Tyus Jones will be heading to the Wizards. The Celtics are also getting a 1st round pick in tonight’s draft

  • The Nuggets are getting the Pacers first-round pick in tonight’s draft while offloading some of their 2024 picks.

  • Khris Middleton has declined his $40 million player option with the Milwaukee Bucks and will become a free agent.

Baseball Action

College World Series
  • The Florida Gators topped TCU 3-2 yesterday to advance to the College World Series Finals. Florida was saved by a final out catch at the center field wall.

  • The LSU Tigers win 5-2 in their matchup against top-ranked Wake Forest. The two teams will meet again tonight at 7 pm ET on ESPN2 in a loser goes home scenario. The winner of tonight’s matchup will face Florida in a best-of-3 final series.

MLB Rules Leaving Coaches Confused

There have been overturned calls on back-to-back nights with plays at the plate and it’s getting coaches ejected. Catchers have been either blocking the baseline or being in the line of the slide at home plate and that is a no-no as you also can’t run the catcher over anymore. As much as these plays look like normal baseball plays, the MLB is trying to keep players safe on scoring plays.

PGA Tour

It’s Thursday so you know that means we’re back on the PGA Tour. The Travelers Championship is taking place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT.

This is another elevated event which means we’ve got a $20 million purse with $3.6 million going to the winner of the event.

The Travelers draws the 2nd largest crowd on the PGA tour and it’s no surprise why. The course is set up to have great views for spectators on every hole, it’s a short 6800-yard course so you can see some great play, and the last 4 holes are super exciting as they surround a lake and you can see some major blow-ups.

Here’s how to watch on cable TV. You can stream everything on the ESPN+ app too.

Thursday, June 22: 3-6 pm ET on Golf Channel
Friday, June 23: 3-6 pm ET on Golf Channel
Saturday, June 24: 1-3 pm ET on Golf Channel, 3-6 pm ET on CBS
Sunday, June 25: 1-3 pm ET on Golf Channel, 3-6 pm ET on CBS

World Lacrosse Championships

The World Lacrosse Championships are taking place over the next 10 days and you can some exciting play that looks a little different than the college and PLL games.

ESPN will be broadcasting every game either on ESPN2, ESPNU, or the ESPN+ app.

Last night USA defeated Canada 14-4 in the opening match of the tournament.

Check out the schedule here and this is how the tournament works. There are 6 pools with 5 teams in each. You play everyone in your pool once and then the top 14 teams from all the pools move on to playoffs.

Enjoy!

That’s all for today. Have a great Thursday and enjoy the NBA Draft tonight.
