+ NFL Sunday Is Back
Good Morning, fill the fridge, decide on your pizza toppings, and make sure you’ve got Redzone ordered, the NFL is back. Don’t worry, we’re also going to recap College Football’s Saturday, complete with close games and big wins but first we’re going to talk a little tennis and FIBA.
FIBA World Cup
Team USA
Team USA fell to Germany in the semis and took on Canada in the bronze medal game. Canada took the Bronze from the US in a 127-118 OT win. Team Canada had a great showing from NBA players. Dillon Brooks scored 39 points and hit seven 3-pointers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points and had 12 assists. RJ Barrett also dropped 23 points. This is Team Canada’s first-ever medal at a World Cup.
US Open
Women’s Final
After dropping her first set to Aryna Sabalenka, American Coco Gauff won her next two sets to win the US Open. Gauff is only 19 years old and she becomes the third American teenager to win the US Open after Tracy Austin did it in 1979 and Serena Williams did it in 1999.
Men’s Final
No. 2 Novak Djokovic takes on No. 3 Daniil Medvedev in the men’s final today at 4 pm ET in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Tune in to the action on ESPN.
College Football Scoreboard
#3 Alabama vs. #11 Texas
This might be the biggest win for the Texas Longhorns program in a while, but they cleaned up against the No. 3 ranked team in the nation with a 34-24 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers led them to the win by throwing for 349 yards and three touchdowns. Adonai Mitchell played a crucial role, catching two touchdown passes.
Alabama’s 21-game home winning streak was ended last night even though Bama’s QB Jalen Milroe made big plays all night. Milroe also threw two interceptions.
Some might say “Texas is back” and their road through the Big 12 doesn’t look as formidable as it had in the past. They’ll need to focus week by week but their toughest opponents will likely be Kansas St. and Oklahoma.
Miami Hurricanes vs #23 Texas A&M
The Miami Hurricanes appear to be back as a high-flying program once again. The unranked Hurricanes took down the #23 ranked team in the nation in and were led by QB Tyler Van Dyke. Van Dyke threw for 374 yards and 5 touchdowns. the Canes’ defense also flew around and grabbed two interceptions. Miami is playing great football right now, even in front of a half-filled stadium. While the question isn’t about whether or not Miami can play, it’s will this energize their fans enough to show up for games.
The question for Texas A&M isn’t one about the fans, but if they should be keeping head coach Jimbo Fisher. Fisher isn’t doing better than previous coach Kevin Sumlin and if A&M wants to fire Fisher, they’ll still owe him $70 million.
#22 Colorado vs. Nebraska
In Coach Prime’s home debut for Colorado, the 22nd-ranked Buffaloes secured a 36-14 victory against long-standing rival Nebraska. QB Shedeur Sanders threw for 393 yards, two passing touchdowns, and added another TD on the ground. Despite a slow start, the Buffaloes dominated once they found their way on the offensive side and outgained the Huskers 454-341.
The Colorado defense showed out once again, recovering 3 fumbles and grabbing 1 interception.
For the Buffaloes, they’ll likely move up in the rankings once again and they’ll be facing in-state rival Colorado State next weekend.
#17 North Carolina vs. Appalachian State
Appalachian State might be the worst opponent you can have on your schedule. They always seem to pull over these nightmarish upsets and they were close to doing the same last night. This game went into double overtime, with North Carolina ultimately prevailing 40-34.
NFL Sunday
If you’re looking to dig into the full schedule of games today or see what could impact your fantasy team, check this out here.
Here’s what we’re looking to watch today.
Cincinnati at Cleveland, 1 pm on CBS
The Bengals are 2-8 against the Browns in their last 10 matchups. We’re expecting Burrow and co. to make a potential Super Bowl run so let’s see if they can come out fast against the Browns.
San Francisco at Pittsburgh, 1 pm on FOX
Brock Purdy is starting for the 49ers and he’s won every game he started and finished last year. We’d like to see if Purdy can continue his stellar performance even after his UCL injury last year.
Las Vegas at Denver, 4:25 on CBS
This one’s simple, Can head coach Sean Payton save the Broncos and Russell Wilson with an opening week win?
Philadelphia at New England, 4:25 pm on CBS
The Eagles are coming off of a Super Bowl appearance and the Patriots’ offense was a wreck last year and the Pats still won 8 games. Bill O’Brien is returning to the Pats as the OC, will Mac Jones and the offense be able to match the offensive prowess of the Eagles?
Miami at LA Chargers, 4:25 pm on CBS
This one is simple, will Tua stay healthy and still be able to play at last year’s superstar level?
Dallas at New York Giants, 8:20 pm on NBC
This one might be simpler than the game above. The Giants had the easiest schedule last year and won a playoff game against the overrated Vikings. The Cowboys are the better team on paper, but they’ve also had a noisy offseason, and head coach Mike McCarthy is calling plays for the offense now. This is a big game to set the tone in the NFC East, and we just don’t know what to expect from either team.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the games and remember….
Don’t let your Mondays ruin your Sundays!
