UPSET ALERT

Good Morning! We had another crazy day in college football and the Philadelphia Phillies are one game away from returning to the World Series. Let’s add a little extra syrups onto our pancakes and jump into sportslandia.

Phillies Closing In On Return To World Series

Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and JT Realmuto all homered in Game 5 of the NLCS last night. Philly was dominant and took a lead in the series with a 6-1 win in Phoenix. Zack Wheeler pitched 7 innings for the Phillies last night and allowed 6 hits, and 1 run, and he struck out 8 batters.

ALCS

The Houston Astros are hosting the Texas Rangers in Game 6 of the ALCS tonight. Gametime is set for 8:03 pm ET and will be on FS1. Houston can advance/return to the World Series with a win tonight.

College Football Recap

It ain’t a college football Saturday without some close calls and an upset or two. Let’s run through some scores and give a few updates on what happened.

#2 Michigan 49 | Michigan State 0

🏈 Sign stealing or not, Michigan dominated their in-state rival like no other. Michigan was up 35-0 in the 3rd quarter and pulled their starters, who also put up some extra points on the Spartans.

#7 Penn State 12 | #3 Ohio State 20

🏈It was a battle of the defenses in Columbus, Ohio. The score was 10-6 heading into the 4th quarter with Ohio State leading. Neither was moving the ball that well but Ohio State put together some needed drives in the 4th to add 10 more points to the scoreboard. Penn State’s offense looked terrible against the only actual defense they’ve played all season. The Nittany Lions were 1 of 16 on 3rd downs.

#16 Duke 20 | #4 Florida State 38

🏈Duke came out strong yesterday I thought I was going to be writing apologies to Duke fans. Duke held a lead heading into the 4th quarter but FSU started to dominate after Duke lost their QB to an ankle injury(which he was questionable for pregame anyway). FSU’s QB Jordan made some impressive plays with his feet to help FSU score 21 in the 4th quarter. Florida State is 7-0 for the first time since 2014.

Arizona State 7 | #5 Washington 15

🏈Two things to mention here. The Pac-12 has depth this year and Washington just came off of a huge win against Oregon. It can be tough for the college kids to get off the high of that huge win and prepare for a 1 win Arizona State team. ASU held a 7-3 lead heading into the 4th but Washington would score 12 unanswered to close it out.

That’s the story if you just saw the stat line. But what really happened was ASU had a 1-point lead with 8 minutes to go in the 4th. They had the ball on Washington’s 12-yard line and threw a pick 6 on a 4th and 3 play. 🤯

UCF 29 | #6 Oklahoma 31

🏈Oklahoma narrowly avoided an upset by scoring 2 touchdowns on their final two drives of the game. Dillon Gabriel came up big, throwing 3 TDs to get the win over his former team.

#8 Texas 31 | Houston 24

🏈The Longhorns love to keep their fans on edge throughout the season. A huge win over Bama, a letdown against OU, and then they just couldn’t close the door on the Houston Cougars even though they held them to 14 total rushing yards. Houston would throw for 378 yards and 3 TDs but the Longhorns would do just enough in the air and win the ground game to pull out the win.

Virginia 31 | #10 North Carolina 27

🏈 Virginia was just 1-5 heading into this matchup and I don’t think anyone saw this upset coming. After some back-and-forth scoring, UNC would have a 24-14 lead midway through the 3rd but some big plays would change the Tar Heels fortune. Virginia would score on a drive, UNC mishit a punt that gave the Cavaliers great field position, and Virginia would have an epic drive in the middle of the 4th where they scored the go-ahead TD.

#14 Utah 34 | #18 USC 32

🏈The USC Trojans’ hopes for a national championship have come to an end with their 2nd loss in a row and what a thriller it was all the way to the end. Utah had an 8-point lead with about 8 minutes to go. USC would get the ball and drive the field but would settle on a field goal after the ball slipped out of QB Caleb Williams’s hand on a pass attempt. Utah is still up 31-26 but they would punt on their next drive and the Trojans would have a nasty return getting the ball all the way to the 11-yard line. USC would score on first down leaving 1:46 on the clock for Utah. Utah would work the ball down the field and with 3 seconds left they would kick the game-winning 38-yard field goal.

That’s all the recap we’ll do today. Check out the rest of the scores here and we’ll be back tomorrow to recap the NFL game. Enjoy your 7 hours of commercial-free football!

and remember… Don’t let your Mondays ruin your Sundays!
