Upset and Disappointed: Monday Edition
Today's Estimated Reading Time: Choose Your Own Path, We're a little over 5 minutes
Good Morning and welcome to October. That feels weird to say and I’d like it to be June again but hey… we got football. Before diving into that, we’ll quickly talk Ryder Cup and some baseball.
Ryder Cup
The Europeans grabbed a Ryder Cup victory after defeating the Americans 16.5 to 11.5. Team USA had an opportunity for an epic comeback after trailing 10.5 to 5.5 before Sunday’s singles matchups. The US looked like it might actually make a rally at some point when you could see lots of red on the leaderboard and then reality started to set in.
The first two matches came in at a tie and a loss for the Americans. John Rahm and Viktor Hovland finished in strong fashion, something the Europeans did all weekend. The score was now 13 to 6. At this point, Europe just needed to tie 3 matches to get the win, so a rally was now almost impossible. USA didn’t make it any easier on themselves either. Every moment there was an opportunity for the Americans to step on the gas, they would have an error like a drive that would be way out into the fescue, a ball in the water, or an approach shot that would overshoot the pin by 30 feet.
The entire tournament could be summed up as USA having it’s chances and not capitalizing. What it really came down to was the European stars dominated and the Americans started slow and finished even slower. The US Captain’s picks also wildly underperformed.
The six U.S. captains picks went 4-12-4. Nobody had a winning record. The best was Brooks Koepka who went 1-1-1.

I guess we’ll have to wait four years to get another shot at winning the Ryder Cup on European soil, when it’s played at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland. The next Ryder Cup will be played at Bethpage Black in 2025.
MLB Update
Remember Tim Wakefield
Legendary Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield passed away yesterday at age 57. He received much praise from the MLB, the Red Sox, and past teammates of his on social media. Wakefield won 186 games over 17 seasons with the Red Sox and while many will remember him for his nasty knuckleball, most will remember him for his kindness and warm spirit.
Playoff Bracket Is Set
The MLB playoff bracket is set and the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, and LA Dodgers all receive a bye for the wild card round. The wild card matchups start up tomorrow and all games will be nationally televised. You can get a full schedule here.

An Awesome Sendoff for Miguel Cabrera
Miguel Cabrera’s legendary career came to an end yesterday. The 40-year-old retired from baseball after 21 seasons in the league. Cabrera was a 12-time all-star, four-time batting champ, a World Series winner, a two-time AL MVP, and a Triple Crown winner. What’s even cooler is the way he was sent off.

NFL Sundays: The Upset and Disappointment
There was a good amount of upset and disappointment, but we’re not negative at the Daily Breakroom, nope! We’re all about balance, and with that, there was a great amount of excitement on Sunday too. It just depends on who your team is.
Let’s dig into some games, maybe in reverse order.
Kansas City 23 @ NY Jets 20
There are a lot of points to be made here so let’s try this.
The Jets had opportunities to win this game, Zach Wilson could have not fumbled, they had two deep ball looks that would’ve been TDs, and yes maybe the refs made a bad call on the defensive holding at the end, but Gardner was grabbing Valdes-Scantling a little high in the upper body/neck region.
The Jets defense is still really good or….
The Chief’s offense isn’t that good? Man, you get some pressure on Mahomes and lock down their receivers and apparently, he’ll make some bad decisions? I guess the only way to lock down the receivers is to go man-to-man, but then Mahomes will just run for 25 yards. So maybe the offense is better than I think?
Yes, there was a missed holding call on a pivotal play by Mahomes and yes holding calls are missed a lot.. O-linemen know when and where they can hold and get away with it.
Arizona 16 @ San Francisco 35
You’ve probably heard by now, but Christian McCaffrey dominated yesterday. The whole 49ers team dominated really.
CMC had 20 carriers for 106 yards and 3 rushing TDs. He also had 7 receptions for 71 yards and a TD.
Brock Purdy only had 1 incompletion and threw for 283 yards on 21 pass attempts
Brandon Aiyuk had 6 receptions for 148 yards
New England 3 @ Dallas Cowboys 38
The Cowboys defense shined once again with 2 defensive touchdowns. One came on a fumble recovery scoop and score and the other came on a DaRon Bland pick-six.
I still don’t think the Cowboys’ offense is playing to their potential, especially when they get close to the red zone. You can’t rely on defense to score points every week.
Las Vegas 17 @ LA Chargers 24
This was a battle throughout the entire game but one man led the way for the Chargers and that was Khalil Mack who had 6 sacks on the day. Chargers are 2-2 after a 0-2 start.
Pittsburgh 6 @ Houston 30
This was a story of QBs. Kenny Pickett left the game with an injury for the Steelers and CJ Stroud threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns after completing 16 of his 30 attempts.
Minnesota 21 @ Carolina 13
Kirk Cousins threw 2 INTs, one that resulted in a pick-six but he ended up finding Justin Jefferson for 2 touchdowns. The Vikings’ defense also helped out with a fumble recovery for a TD. The Vikings get their first win of the season.
Washington 31 @ Philly 34 (OT)
This was a close one for the Eagles but the Hurts/Brown connection was real in the 2nd half. The Eagles are 1 of 2 teams left that are undefeated. The next 9 weeks are tough on their schedule.
Cincinnati 3 @ Tennessee 27
This is very upsetting for Bengals fans. The Cincy offense, which has been firing like a V8 for the last few years is looking more like a lawn mower engine that’s been sitting in the shed for a few years. The Bengals are at the bottom of the AFC North.
Denver 31 @ Chicago 28
The Broncos stink, Chicago stinks, but Chicago stunk worse than the Broncos yesterday. Chicago led 28-7 near the end of the 3rd and they would allow Denver to score 24 points in the final 15 minutes and 14 seconds of the game. Denver gets their first win and the Bears are 0-4.
Miami 20 @ Buffalo 48
Just a week after beating the Broncos 70-20, Miami was on the receiving end of a similar score. The Bills beat up the Dolphins 48-20 and put on an offensive showcase. Josh Allen completed more than 80% of his passes and threw for 320 yards and 4 TDs. The Bills defense also came up with 2 turnovers and sacked Tua 4 times.
Monday Night Football
We’ve got another primetime matchup in New York as the Seattle Seahawks face the New York Giants at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN. Seattle is a 2-point favorite on the road and the O/U is 47. I like the under here and if I had to choose, I’d go with the Seahawks getting a W by at least a field goal in New York.
That’s all for today. Have a great week and enjoy the game tonight.
