Let’s do this.
NBA Play-in Tournament
Upset in Miami
The Atlanta Hawks upset the Miami Heat in the first game of the NBA play-in tournament. Hawks topped the Heat with a convincing 116-105 win. Atlanta advances as the 7 seed and will play the Boston Celtics in the first round of playoffs. Miami will have to face the winner of tonight’s 9 vs 10 play-in game.
The Heat started off with a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the game and that was the last time they lead. Trae Young had 25 for the Hawks and Kyle Lowry had 33 for the Heat. The big story of the night was the bench play for the Hawks. Atlanta’s bench scored 53 points helping them get this W.
Lakers Survive
It was a close game in the 2nd play-in game of the night. It was a back and forth kind of night although the Timberwolves did have an 11 point lead at the end of the first half.
The T-wolves grew the lead to 15 in the 3rd but couldn’t hold on. The Lakers started to get it closer midway through the 4th quarter and eventually tied up the game with 2:00 min left. The game was tied with 2.4 seconds left and then some crazy happened. Crazy meaning six points were scored in 2.4 seconds to keep the game tied and send it to OT.

In OT, the Lakers grabbed a quick lead and were able to hold off a last second push, getting the win 108-102. LeBron had 30 points and Anthony Davis contributed with 24 for the Lakers. Karl Anthony Towns and Mike Conley had 24 and 23, respectively, for Minnesota.
The Lakers will advance as the 7 seed and the Timberwolves will play the winner of tonight’s Thunder vs Pelicans matchup.
Toronto Raptors vs Chicago Bulls
The Raptors take on the Bulls in the 9 vs 10 play-in game at 7:00pm on ESPN tonight. Toronto is 2-1 against Chicago this year. The teams are very similar in this matchup in points averaged, turnovers, rebounds, and field goal % so were not sure who to give the edge to. The winner of this game will travel to Miami for the 2nd play-in game for the 8 seed.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder travel to New Orleans to take on the Pelicans at 9:30pm on ESPN. The straight up edge in this one goes to New Orleans, mainly because of the home court advantage. The Thunder play tough when they’re away and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been playing well. The Thunder should cover the +5.5 spread on this one.
No Romance In Boston
The Bruins weren’t going to wait for a poetic ending to the season where they would travel to Montreal, who currently owns the record for most points in an NHL season, to make their mark in the history books.
The Bruins surpassed the historic mark with a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night and set the new record for most points scored in an NHL season. We will see if they extend the record tomorrow night.
Top Drama For A Top Recruit
Five-star basketball recruit Mackenzie Mgbako is attempting to decommit from the Duke Blue Devils. He requested a release from his letter of intent and it’s likely due to the Blue Devils 7 foot center Kyle Filipowski holding off on entering the NBA draft this year and returning to Duke for another season.
Mgbako is the #8 nationally ranked player and there is speculation that Ohio State, Kentucky, and Memphis will be back on the table and North Carolina will jump into the recruiting mix.
Performance of the Day
Luis Arraez hit for the cycle yesterday. This is the Miami Marlin’s first cycle in franchise history.
Not sure what hitting for the cycle means? It’s when a player records a single, double, triple, and a home run all in one game, in no particular order.
Check it out here.
Last night, Luis Arraez hit for the first cycle in Marlins franchise history.
His batting average is now up to .537.
