The U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club

Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes and 1 second

It’s a good morning indeed! We have arrived at Los Angeles Country Club for the 3rd Golf Major of the year. We’ll give you what you need to know and some more for golf. We’ll also cover some football and baseball news.

Here we go.

U.S. Open

Let’s cover a few things for this week’s major.

What’s the purse for this major? The USGA is paying out $20 million in payouts for the U.S. Open. The winner will take home $3.6 million.

No one is really familiar with this course, right? Right! Los Angeles Country Club is ultra-exclusive and private and they shy away from letting celebrities in. While they have a beautiful clubhouse and beautiful homes overlooking the course, the real beauty is the nature of the course. It sits in a canyon surrounded by forests along with views of mansions and skyscrapers. Back to the point of exclusivity. No one really has access to this course and players wouldn’t have had an opportunity to play here before the US Open was being played here. So this week’s practice rounds are the first taste of the course for the field.

Is the course hard? The course is always manicured in a way to make it more challenging for these uber-talented golfers. You don’t want someone winning the U.S. Open coming in at 20 under. Although that’s not impossible the course will be playing more difficult than normal. The course will be 7,421 yards which is quite long considering it’s a par 70 with 5 par 3’s. There will be blind shots, thick rough, barrancas, and unforgiving Bermuda grass. The course is going to put everyone’s skills to the test.

Isn’t there a really short par 3? Yup! Hole 15 is a short par 3. It’s usually a 124-yard shot to the green but this can play as short as 80 yards sometimes. You’d probably expect players to go right at the pin but Rickie Fowler said he might layup on the 80-yard shot. There’s not a ton of room to miss and Rickie thinks the ball will plug in the surrounding bunkers because of the trajectory you’ll need to softly land the ball on the green from such a short distance.

It’s funny to think about a player laying up on an 80-yard par 3 but then have a bunch of players going for the green on the 330-yard par 4 on hole 6. Players always have to make some tough decisions on the course to prevent bogeys but hole 6 presents an opportunity to reach a driveable green although it’s the smallest green on the course and is surrounded by trouble.

Let’s Talk Football

Stefon Diggs Attends Camp

The Buffalo Bills and fans were a little worried when Stefon Diggs didn’t show up for day 1 of the Bills’ mandatory minicamp practice. Head Coach Sean McDermott was very concerned, which he said was his sentiment anytime a player isn’t at practice. Things seem to be okay in Buffalo after Diggs showed up for day 2 of minicamp.

SEC Football

The SEC announced its new schedule for the 2024 regular season and there are some pretty awesome matchups. Alabama will be hosting Georgia and Texas will be playing at Texas A&M. And don’t worry, The Red River showdown is going to continue between Texas and Oklahoma. 2024 is going to be a great year for football, but we’re super pumped for 2023.

Please Stand Behind The Yellow Line

The New York Yankees and New York Mets played the first two games of the Subway series. The teams split the two games at Citi Field and will face off again on July 25 and 26.

The Yankees grabbed a 7-6 win on Tuesday night and last night’s game went into extra innings. Brandon Nimmo, hit a walk-off double last night to give the Mets the 4-3 win.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the US Open!
