Enjoy

US Open

Men’s Singles
  • Novak Djokovic set a new record with his 47th Grand Slam semifinal appearance, surpassing Roger Federer's previous record, by defeating Taylor Fritz 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 at the U.S. Open. Djokovic improved to 13-0 in the quarterfinals in Flushing Meadows and maintained an 8-0 record against Fritz.

  • Ben Shelton, a 20-year-old American, reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at the after upsetting Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 in a closely contested match. Shelton will face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Shelton is a powerful hitter who can challenge Djokovic. Shelton will need to keep unforced errors down because Djokovic doesn’t slip up too often.

Women’s Singles

Coco Gauff has reached a Grand Slam final before, she knows how tough it is to get there. She just advanced to the US Open semifinals for the first time, but she’s not satisfied.

After an almost flawless victory against Jelena Ostapenko going 6-0, 6-2, Gauff has her eyes on the trophy. She said it’s never been about the fans and the autographs, it was always about getting a trophy. Gauff will face Karolina Muchova on Thursday in the semifinals.

FIBA World Cup

Team USA

The United States has advanced to the medal round of the FIBA World Cup with a dominant 100-63 victory over Italy in the quarterfinals, bouncing back after a loss to Lithuania. Mikal Bridges led the U.S. with 24 points, while Tyrese Haliburton contributed 18 points. Team USA held Italy to just 31% shooting and 7-of-38 from beyond the arc. The U.S. will face Germany in the semifinals on Friday.

Canada

Team Canada is trying to find a way to the semifinals as they take on Slovenia at 8:30 a.m. today. If they win, they will face Serbia in the semis.

Travis Kelce

The Kansas City Chiefs might be without star TE Travis Kelce for the season opener on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions after he hyperextended his knee during practice. Kelce underwent some tests and it appears his ACL is intact, although he is dealing with inflammation.

If the Chiefs’ star can’t play, KC will be relying on Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore as their top weapon at receiver.

The opening line spread was Detroit +6.5 but now it’s at +5. Without Kelce, it might be a decent idea to take Detroit after the Lions were on a winning streak at the end of last year.

Home Run History

Jose Altuve Is On A Streak

Jose Altuve is doing some impressive things right now. Altuve hit 3 homers in the first 3 innings of the Houston Astros dominating 14-1 win over the Texas Rangers. He became the 4th player in MLB history to have 3 homers in the first 3 innings.

What’s equally as impressive, if not more, is that he had 5 home runs in 6 at-bats, going back to Monday night.

Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton reached the 400 career home run milestone on Tuesday night with a 2 home run homer against the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium. Stanton becomes the fourth fastest in MLB history to reach the milestone. Stanton recognized it was a cool moment, but it doesn’t change much for the Yankees. They have a month left of baseball and are currently 7.5 games out of the wild card.

We’ll be back tomorrow to talk to some NFL, College Football, MLB, and Ryder Cup!

Enjoy the day
