A Weekend of Championships

Happy Sunday y'all. Don't let the scaries set in yet. We've got lots of football to watch before we have to think about Monday. It's a longer read today, grab a pop, kick back and relax.

Max Homa is one of us

He’s just a regular guy who has fun on social media, enjoys time with his family and friends, except he’s really good at golf.

He went from roasting random people's swings on instagram to roasting the competitors at Torrey Pines on Saturday to capture his 6th PGA win. He was 5 strokes back from the lead going into the final round and shot a 66 to finish ahead by two strokes.

Novak Djokovic Is NOT One Of Us

He's a different breed. The man who follows a rigorous training plan, does yoga every morning, eats perfectly clean, and hardly consumes sugar just won his 10th Australian Open and his 22nd Tennis Major. This feat has Djokovic tying Rafael Nadal for most tennis majors. With this win, Djokovic regains his spot as World #1. You can see where his greatness stands in the tweet below.

It's Championship Sunday in the NFL

The Winners of the AFC and NFC Conference games will be heading to Phoenix for the Super Bowl 57.

Let's break down the early game first.

San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles at 3:00pm (Watch on Fox)

Can Mr. Irrelevant become relevant by getting the 49ers to the Super Bowl? Brock Purdy, who was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft (hence the Mr. Irrelevant) has surprisingly taken a 49ers team to the NFC Conference Championship Game. Not all the credit should be awarded to him, as the Niners have a pretty dominant defense and one of the best head coaches (Kyle Shanahan) in the league. Shanahan doesn't seem to need the top tier QBs to get his team deep into the playoffs. The 49ers have had lots of faith and seemed to take the training wheels off of the offense for Purdy. The playbook is open and they have full confidence in his ability to make plays to help his team win. Star RB Christian McCaffrey is also a full go today as his calf seems to be feeling good.

Checking out the Eagles side of the matchup, they'll be relying heavily on a top notch performance from QB Jalen Hurts, who is said to be back to normal after a shoulder injury. He's going to be a key in this game as their offense has been sluggish without him.

This is going to be a battle of two great defenses. With the 49ers being 2.5 point underdogs, their key to the game will be shutting down the run opportunities of Hurts. Getting pressure at the line of scrimmage will make the QB read that the Eagles rely on a bit more difficult to run. The Eagles also have a talented receiving core and extra pressure on Hurts should reduce the number of deep threats from AJ Brown and Devonta Smith. If the Eagles can get pressure on Purdy by only rushing 4, this should put a strain on the 49ers offense. The Eagles are going to want to eliminate big plays and force Purdy to check down, even with the strong backfield of playmakers. My prediction is a 20-13 Eagles win.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Kansas City Chiefs at 6:30pm (Watch on ABC or CBS)

The AFC continues to treat us with great conference championship matchups. This is rematch of last years Conference Championship, which the Bengals won 27-24 in OT.

The key to this matchup is an injury report.

The Bengals who really starting to role at the end of the season are without two offensive lineman, which only make it tougher to protect Joe Burrow. Burrow has been known to outperform in big moments along with a defense that plays well in the playoffs. If the Bengals can give Burrow time in the pocket, the Chiefs will have a difficult time trying to stop receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

The Chiefs aren't without woes either. Star QB Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain last week and it should limit his mobility and his ability to stretch out plays for the offense. Tight End, Travis Kelce was also suffering from back spasms late in the week but he is giving it a go tonight. The Chiefs have two WRs listed as questionable as well. With 4 of their skill positions suffering from injuries, it's worth asking if this offense can put enough points on the board to give them a shot at getting to another super bowl. I predict a Bengals 27-24 win. Check out the odds b

Is Rickie Fowler back?

He's made 5 of the last 6 cuts in tourneys he's played in. Can we consider Rickie as being "back"?
