Welcome To The Divisional Round!
Happy Saturday! The Divisional round of the NFL playoffs has arrived and we’ve got four great games lined up for the weekend. Let’s take a closer look and discuss some wagering.
Here we go.
NFL Playoffs Divisional Round
Saturday Games
Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens
📺️ Gametime is 4:30 pm ET on ABC/ESPN
💰️ The Ravens are favored by 9.5 points and the O/U is 43.5
❓️ Lamar Jackson is on track to be the MVP this year. Will he be able to get over his playoff hump that has plagued his otherwise pretty successful career?
👉️ I do think the Ravens are going to end the Texans season this weekend, the question is by how many points? I think we’re going to see a shootout-type game where Lamar makes a lot of nice plays on his feet, and the Ravens put up about 35 points. I think CJ Stroud will continue to impress, but I think the Ravens’ defense will be more than capable of stopping the rookie. I think Stroud and Dalton Schultz will be a big connection today, but I think the Texans score something from 20 to 24 points.
👀 Something I’m looking at is the CJ Stroud total passing yards over 234. He did that in the first half of the Browns game last week, and I think he can easily hit it this week.
Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers
📺️ Gametime is 8:15 pm ET on FOX
💰️ The Niners are also favored by 9.5 points and the O/U is 50.5
👀 The Packers played great defense against the Cowboys last week, but I don’t think they can stop the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan always draws up a great scheme that gets his guy into the open field, and not only does Purdy make great decisions, and he’ll take some downfield shots, the skilled players of San Francisco can break tackles and get YAC. I think the 49ers win this by 10 points and I think I’ll take the under here.
👉️ Is there a way the Packers can win this game? Sure. Jordan Love needs to play out of his mind against a defense that is way better than Dallas. Love will also need some help, as the Packers seem to have one breakout receiver every week but not usually two. Green Bay’s pass rush will need to be all over Purdy, too, as Purdy has had some of the longest dropback times in the league this year. Less time to make a decision means more time to make a mistake.
Sunday Games
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Detroit Lions
📺️ Gametime is 3 pm ET on NBC
💰️ The Lions are favored by 6 points and the O/U is 50
👉️ I think the Bucs have been playing down(or up) to their opponents’ level all year. The Lions are a super-talented team, and if the Bucs have one thing going for them, it’s their blitz packages that will be able to pressure Jared Goff all game. I think this game will be closer than the rest, but the Lions will win this by a field goal because of a run game and home-field advantage.
👀 One bet I like is TE Cade Otton’s total reception yards. The Lions have given up a good amount of yards to TEs this year. Otton had 89 yards last week, and his line is set at 29.5 this week. I think the Lions will be looking to lock Mike Evans down again, so I expect Otton to get some looks.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills
📺️ Gametime is 6:30 pm ET on CBS
💰️ The Chiefs are favored by 2.5 points and the O/U is 45.5
👀 This might be the most anticipated matchup of the playoffs so far. This could be a career-defining moment for Josh Allen and even Patrick Mahomes, who could add to his legacy with a road win. I think you’re crazy if you’re not taking the Chiefs when they get points in the playoffs. I’ll keep betting on them until they prove to me that I’m the dumb one.
👉️ The Chiefs have one of the best defenses in the NFL this year, which we’re not used to seeing with them. The Chiefs' run D has been somewhat suspect, and that could be an area for the Bills to exploit with Josh Allen and James Cook.
👉️ Mahomes and co. hasn’t been the same explosive offense that we’ve seen in the past, but last week, they showed off some weapons. The Bills’ defense isn’t much healthier than the Dolphins’, and they didn’t close out the game against a weak Steeler offense in the wild-card round. I expect Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce to have big games this weekend.
Enjoy your weekend, and enjoy the games!
