Well, That Was Fast....

It didn’t take long for us to see the first upset in the Women’s World Cup. In fact, it came in the opening match from one of the host countries. New Zealand would defeat Norway 1-0 in a massive upset which would be a historic moment for New Zealand

This is New Zealand’s first win in a world cup and it came from a lone goal from Hannah Wilkinson.

The Norwegian team seemed flustered by the loss and said their heads weren’t in the right place and they “woke up” with about 25 minutes left in the match and it was too late.

All right, let’s dig into some other stories on this fine Thursday.

Is Saquon Barkley Going to Sit Out ?

Runningbacks are upset, we get it.

The franchise tag doesn’t allow true free agency and it sucks, we get it.

Saquon Barkley and the Giants have been unable to reach a long-term deal and Barkley is set to play this year under the $10 million franchise tag. Saquon thinks of himself as the most talented RB in the league and touts that he doesn’t even want to be the highest-paid.

Now, Barkley is weighing his options and is considering sitting out until the New York Giants budge. Barkley believes if he sits out, the offense will suffer greatly and that will show his value.

Here’s the deal, Saquon could be the illest RB in the league still, but backup Matt Breida would still be able to do some damage behind their O-line.

There are two simple reasons the Giants don’t want to pay him.

  1. Saquon has missed 25% of his games due to injury and the best ability is availability

  2. If Saquon is injured, the Giants don’t want to have their capital tied up because it’s not an RB league anymore, it’s a QB/WR league.

Let’s see what happens.. it would be a crazy year if one of the league’s most exciting players to watch sat out for the entire season.

Detroit Lions Beefing Up Their Offense

The Lions have made a trade with the New York Jets where Detroit will send a conditional sixth-rounder to the Jets for WR Denzel Mims and a seventh-rounder in 2025.

The Lions are looking to beef up their receiving core and Mims hasn’t lived up to his expectations in New York. Let’s see if a move to Detroit will be a boost of energy for both Mims and the Lions’ offense.

Yankees Facing Too Much Pressure From Their Fans

The Yankees are down bad right now. Not just losing to the Angels again bad, but bad like giving up 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings and not being able to get out of this funk

Starting Pitcher Carlos Rodon was struggling after the 2nd inning, Yanks being down 4-0, and as some NYY fans were making comments in the stands in LA, he had no other ideas on how to react except blow them a kiss.

Rodon wasn’t the only nutty pitcher for the Yanks dealing with the fans. After reliever Tommy Kahnle gave up an 8th-inning run, he came back to the dugout and practically assaulted a fan. Check it out.

That’s all for today. Enjoy your Thursday and don’t forget to watch The Open and the World Cup, they go by fast!
