Wild Card Round Off To A Hot Start
Today's Estimated Reading Time: 4 Minutes and 56 Seconds (worth it)
Good Morning and welcome to another beautiful day on this spinny globe. Speaking of the spinny globe, the Minnesota Twins won a playoff game last night and the earth revolved around the sun 19 times since the last time that happened(The Twins won their last playoff game in 2004).
Let’s talk about the other wild card games and fantasy football
MLB Wild Card
The MLB Wild Card is off to a hot start with two of the home teams losing a game. They keep home-field advantage but it doesn’t make a comeback any easier now that they have to win the next two.
AL Wild Card
Blue Jays 1 @ Twins 3
The Twins drought is over and it’s wild that they had such a drought to begin with. Since their last playoff win in 2004, the Twins have won the AL Central 5 times but have never won a playoff game.
Minnesota will try to advance with a win this evening with game 2 starting at 4:30 pm ET on ESPN
Rangers 4 @ Rays 0
The Rays had one of the best winning percentages this year and they are about to get bounced by Texas, who let’s be honest, is a very good baseball team. This could be the 2nd year in a row the Rays don’t make it out of the wild card but I guess the fans won’t care. This game had the lowest MLB attendance for a postseason game since 1919!
Game 2 is set for a 3 pm ET start and will be on ABC
NL Wild Card
Diamondbacks 6 @ Brewers 3
Arizona grabbed a huge road win and got help from Evan Longoria, who turns 38 in 3 days. He made a huge catch/double play at 3rd base with bases loaded and staved off a potential rally.
Game 2 is set for 7 pm ET on ESPN2
OH MY, EVAN LONGORIA 😱
What a snag to start the inning-ending double play 🔥

Marlins 1 @ Phillies 4
The Phillies pick up where their postseason left off last year(other than losing in the World Series). Zack Wheeler struck out 8 batters and was pulled in the 7th when he gave up 1 run.
Bryce Harper is the talk of the town today after ignoring the 3rd base coach’s signal and hitting the gas pedal to score the 4th run of the night
Game 2 is going off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Fantasy Football
Get ready for those waivers to wire. Let’s fantasize together.
First off, let’s talk bye week. If you’re not paying attention, there are 4 teams with a bye. The Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all off this week.
If you have anyone on those rosters, throw em on the bench.
Here are two things I’m seeing this week that are overall points, do what you please with them.
The Bills are traveling to London to take on the Jags. I don’t normally put too much stock into the travel across the pond, but the Bills just played a hyped-up game against the Dolphins and they lost Tre’Davious White for the season and Christian Benford is day-to-day. I’d like to say Trevor Lawrence is about to go off this weekend, so pick up some Jags receivers if you don’t have them already. One thing to look for though is Von Miller’s return, which seems like it’s happening on Sunday. That Bills’ defensive front is pretty sweet and Miller is icing on the cake.
Hear me out. The New Orleans Saints. They’re going to have a good week. I could be wrong, but I could be right. They’re playing the New England Patriots and the Pats had a CB injury with Christian Gonzalez injuring his shoulder, and Matthew Judon will be out for a few months. Whether is Jameis or Derek Carr, I think the Saints offense puts up some numbers in Foxborough.
Alright, let’s talk offense.
QBs
There aren’t a ton of injuries with QBs right now but if you’re looking for a fill-in this week, Commanders QB Sam Howell could be your guy. He’s playing well for Washington and they face a weaker Bears team on Thursday night. He could get you some points.
Kenny Pickett could be out for the Steelers and let’s be honest.. you weren’t playing him anyways. If he’s out, Mitch Trubisky is in. Good luck
RBs
Rams RB, Kyren Williams had a day on Sunday against the Colts. He also suffered a bruised hip. I wouldn’t expect this to impact him much, but if the Rams need to replace him, I’d expect the replacement work would come down to short throws in the passing game.
Giants RB Saquon Barkley is unlikely to play against the Dolphins this week. Expect Matt Breida to continue to get carries.
Remember the Chargers are on a bye this week but we might get to see Austin Ekeler return in week 6, something to keep an eye on as you make changes to the roster this week.
Colts’ RB Jonathan Taylor is returning to practice today and could get action against the Titans on Sunday. Is it likely the Colts’ will play him after he hasn’t had contact all season? I’m not sure. If he does play, I expect limited carries.
WR/TE
Lions WR Jameson Williams has been reinstated after a ban for gambling. The Lions are hosting an 0-4 Panthers team and Williams could get some looks this weekend.
Bengals receiver Tee Higgins has a broken rib. He’ll be attempting to play through it against the Cardinals this weekend. It’s likely worth it to keep him on the bench.
Luke Musgrave could return to the Packers this week as the tight end is coming out of the concussion protocol.
Rams TE Tyler Higbee is questionable after injuring his thumb against the Colts. If I know tight ends, he’ll play this weekend against the Eagles.
That’s all for now, have a great Wednesday.
