Will New York Go Without Another Championship?

Today’s Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes and 12 seconds

Happy Tuesday. This is the Daily Breakroom and we bring you sports stories you can read in under 5 minutes daily. Today we’re bringing you NBA and NHL scores and were wondering if New York will go another year without any championships.

Let’s get to it.

NBA Scores

Monday Night Scores

Eastern Conference Semifinals, Game 1

Philadelphia 76ers 119

Boston Celtics 115

  • The Philadelphia 76ers were without their center Joel Embiid on Monday night. James Harden and Tyrese Maxey would need to show up big time

  • The Sixers trailed practically the entire game except a few minutes in the 3rd and with 8 seconds left to go in the game

  • Jayson Tatum had 39 for the Celts but Tyrese Maxey scored 26 for the Sixers and James Harden had 45 for Philly including this massive bucket with 8 seconds to go to help the Sixers get the W

Western Conference Semifinals, Game 2

Phoenix Suns 87

Denver Nuggets 97

  • The Suns go down 0-2 in the series against Denver as the Nuggets show us they are a really really good team, even though most of us thought KD being traded to Phoenix made them immediate title contenders

  • KD scored 24 but only hit on 2 of 12 attempts from 3 for the Suns and Devin Booker did his thing, scoring 35. Although these were good performances, the difference maker played for the other team.

  • Nikola Jokic scored 39 points and had 16 rebounds for the Nuggets, leading the charge on the interior to help with the W. Jamal Murray was a non-factor going 0 for 9 from beyond the arc

  • Game 3 is heading to Phoenix and we’ll see if the Suns can pick up some wins

TNT Tuesday’s

We’ve got back-to-back matchups on TNT tonight. They are:

Miami Heat at New York Knicks, 7:30 pm ET

  • Heat are up 1-0 in the series

  • Jimmy Butler is a game-time decision for the Heat

  • Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson are questionable for the Knicks

LA Lakers at GS Warriors, 10:00 pm ET

  • This is game 1 of the series

  • Steph Curry and LeBron James are meeting in the first playoff series that is not a finals matchup. Curry leads LeBron 3-1 in the finals series.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Round 1, Game 7

New York Rangers 0

New Jersey Devils 4

  • It’s hard to say if the Devils played outstanding or the Rangers poorly. Either way, the Devils were the superior team on the ice last night in game 7 in Newark.

  • The Rangers couldn’t possess the puck in the offensive zone and the Devils had 20 puck takeaways compared to the Rangers’ 3

  • The Rangers had multiple power play opportunities and while they couldn’t capitalize, the Devils did with Michael McLeod scoring a shorthanded goal to make the game 1-0 midway through the 2nd

  • The Devils showed off their speed the rest of the night scoring another goal in the 2nd and closing out the game in the 3rd with two more goals including an empty netter

  • New Jersey will face Carolina in the 2nd round

Tuesday Night Matchups

Florida Panthers at Toronto Maple Leafs, 7:00 pm ET on ESPN

  • Game 1 of the second round

Seattle Kraken at Dallas Stars, 9:30 pm on ESPN

  • Game 1 of the second round

Can A New York Team Get It Done?

New York City, and the whole state for that matter, feels like it’s in a major championship slump. New York is a mecca for major sports fans and there hasn’t been a dominant team in a while. The Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009. The New York Giants and New York Jets have not won a Super Bowl since 2011 and 1969, respectively. The Bills have been looking like Super Bowl contenders and keep falling short. The New York Knicks have not won an NBA championship since 1973 and they didn’t start the second round of playoffs off with a bang, even with homecourt advantage. The Brooklyn Nets got swept off the court in the first round of playoffs. The New York Rangers were just eliminated last night and they haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1994. The Islanders were eliminated in the first round and they haven’t won a cup since 1983. The Buffalo Sabres haven’t made the playoffs in 12 years!

New Yorkers are passionate fans and the pain has to stop at some point. The fans are relying on the Yankees, the Mets, and the Knicks to end the major four championship slump.

Is there any hope?

The Yanks currently sit at the bottom of the AL East and the Mets are second in the NL East. We’re not even 1/5 through the MLB season so we’ll see how the season plays out.

If the Knicks want to give anyone hope, they better get a win tonight at MSG.

That’s all for today. Enjoy your day and we will be back tomorrow with more scores.
