Who Will Win The Home Run Derby This Year?
Good Morning. We hope you’re all fully recovered from the 4th of July celebrations. If not, fill up another cup of coffee, and let’s get going. We’re covering some NBA moves, MLB action, and a few other things today.
Here we go.
NBA Moves
Anthony Edwards
The Minnesota Timberwolves and All-star guard Anthony Edwards have reached an agreement on a designated rookie extension where Anthony Edwards will get the max. Edwards will be in Minnesota for another 5 years and the contract can be worth up to $260 million. Edwards was the #1 overall pick in 2020 and he’s becoming one of the most explosive players in the NBA. He’ll turn 22 in August.
Mo Bamba
Center Mo Bamba was waived by the LA Lakers last week and he’s already found a new home. Bamba has agreed to a 1-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. This adds a little extra height and security to the roster if anything happens to the NBA’s MVP Joel Embiid.
Three Team Sign and Trade
The Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, and San Antonio Spurs are entering a sign-and-trade agreement that moves a few pieces around. Here’s how it’s going down
Dallas gets to sign restricted free agent and former Celtic Grant Williams to a four-year $53 million deal
San Antonio receives Mavs’ forward Reggie Bullock and an unprotected 2030 first-round pick and two seconds round picks at some point
The Celtics receive two second-round picks for an undetermined year as well.
NBA Bonus
The NBA is testing a new anti-flopping rule in summer league and we had our first technical for flopping called last night.

MLB News
The Home Run Derby
You can’t have an All-Star event in baseball without the home run derby. We’ve got all the slots filled and here are the first round matchups.
(1) Luis Robert Jr. vs. (8) Adley Rutschman
(2) Pete Alonso vs. (7) Julio Rodríguez
(3) Mookie Betts vs. (6) Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
(4) Adolis García vs. (5) Randy Arozarena
This year’s contest is set to take place on Monday at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN.
Elly De La Cruz
Speaking of home runs, we had a little drama with the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals yesterday.
Early in yesterday’s matchup, the Nats wanted De La Cruz’s bat checked out because he had a white cap at the end of his grip. The umps deemed it legal but De La Cruz would strike out.
Later in the game, De La Cruz would crush a 455-foot homer and then point to his bat giving a little taunt to the Nationals dugout. The Reds would win 9-2.

Mike Trout Update
Mike Trout had surgery on his left wrist after breaking a small bone with a foul ball swing the other night. He’s projected to return to the roster within 4-8 weeks.
Yankees Pitcher Suspended
New York Yankees Pitcher Jimmy Cordero was suspended for the remainder of the 2023 season for violating MLB’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy.
The reliever has made 31 appearances, throwing 32 1/3 innings with an ERA of 3.86 and striking out 34.
Wimbledon Update
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic won his second round vs Australian Jordan Thompson in straight sets. While Thompson served the ball extremely well, Djokovic didn’t make an unforced error in the first nine games of the match. This was Djokovic’s 350th Grand Slam match win.
Center Court Matchup Today
Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas will face each other on the center court at 11:45 am ET today. This could be one of Murray’s last appearances on center court as Tsitsipas is ranked 5th in the world and Murray is getting to the back end of his career and retirement is likely in the next few years. Tune into ESPN to watch the action.
That’s all today. Have a great Thursday!
