Wolves Are Dogs, Wire to Wire Wins + More That You Missed
What a weekend! We’ve got major winners and awesome horse racing, and the NBA and NHL playoffs are still going wild.
Let’s jump right and see what you missed.
Headlines
🏀 We’ll take a closer look at the NBA, but the Minnesota Timberwolves knocked out the reigning NBA Champs in game 7 last night. That’s right, the Denver Nuggets didn’t even make it to the Western Conference Finals.
⛳️Xander Schauffele won his first major yesterday as he snuck out a PGA Championship win by just one stroke over Bryson DeChambeau after Schauffele birdied 18. It was a wire-to-wire win for Xander, who finished each day of the major with the lead.
🏇 There was another wire-to-wire win but this time it was on the race track at The Preakness Stakes. Seize The Day got the win after leading the entire race and denied Mystick Dan the triple crown opportunity. It was a great finish at Pimlico Race Course, and we’ll be seeing you in 3 weeks for the Belmont Stakes, which will be run at Saratoga Race Track this year.
Let's take a closer look at some playoff games.
NBA
🏀 The Knicks and Pacers played in the early game 7 yesterday and the Pacers didn’t hold anything back against a broken down Knicks team. The Pacers shot 76% from the field and had a 20-point lead in the first half. LITERALLY EVERYTHING WAS DROPPING. The Knicks couldn’t hang around after OG Anunoby tried to play and left the game after hitting 2 shots. Jalen Brunson then left the game after fracturing his hand. The Knicks were down 5 guys, including 4 starters. If the Pacers didn’t win this game, they shouldn’t have been allowed to play in the NBA next season. The Knicks couldn’t overcome their massive deficit; the Pacers finished 67% from the field, and the final score was 130-109. It was a helluva ride for the Knicks, but now it’s up to Indiana to upset the Celtics.
🏀 You know who could overcome a 20-point deficit? The Minnesota freaking Timberwolves. The Nuggets were up 20 points against the T-Wolves during the 3rd quarter. Yup! The score was 58-38 at one point in the 3rd, and then Minnesota went on a 21-3 run. Minnesota pulled away during the 4th quarter, and even though Jokic and Jamal Murray combined for 69 points, Denver couldn’t hold off the comeback. The T-Wolves return to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 20 years.
NHL
🏒 The Dallas Stars got a 2OT win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night to win their series and advance to the Western Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
🏒 The Florida Panthers found their way to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will face the New York Rangers. Florida beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 in game 6 of their series.

Anything else to know
We’re testing something new with the Daily Breakroom. We will be a little less than Daily as we transition to bringing you some sporting news around 3-4 times a week. We’re looking to move to a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule and will throw in an additional day when necessary. Who knows… maybe we will bump it back up to 7 days again in the future.
As always, thanks for reading, and have a helluva Monday to start the week off right.
